Chapter 95 - Let’s Talk Real Compensation

"Buzz…"

A surge of clarity spread from the center of Peter's brow. His consciousness seemed to stretch outward—and in the very next moment, the entire interior of the power plant unfolded before his eyes.

Beside the massive generator, spinning at terrifying speed, stood five Team Galactic operatives clad in silver uniforms.

At their head was a sharp, short-haired woman with crimson hair. White long boots paired with gray tight pants, and a silver dress accentuating her slim waist—

Commander Mars.

Beside her stood a bloated gray cat Pokémon, its eyes gleaming coldly.

[Purugly lv59 (Gym-tier Advanced)]

Peter's pupils contracted.

He'd expected trouble—but not this much.

Level fifty-nine… That's brushing right up against Elite Four territory.

No wonder Team Galactic could openly challenge the Pokémon League.

Without this level of strength, they would've been wiped out ages ago.

"…If that's the case," Peter muttered grimly,

"Officer Jenny alone won't be enough."

Jenny's presence was useful as legal pressure, nothing more—

a symbol that forced the enemy to avoid openly crossing the line.

But if arrests were attempted head-on, Mars would fight back without hesitation, possibly dragging everyone down in a mutual destruction scenario.

"Restoring power is all that matters… no need for a frontal clash."

With his goal clarified, Peter began scanning the vision carefully.

Five enemies total.

Two grunts were operating energy extraction devices, siphoning electricity.

Two more stood guard.

Mars herself casually fiddled with her phone, urging them to hurry.

On the floor nearby lay a man bound tightly, unconscious.

Judging by the name tag on his chest—

Karsten, Nurse Joy's husband.

As Peter pondered, Lopunny finished stacking the second fully boosted Baton Pass and handed it over to Indeedee.

At that moment, Mars shifted her posture slightly, exposing the Poké Balls at her waist.

"…Huh?"

A sudden realization struck Peter.

He glanced again at the unconscious Karsten.

Sure enough—

there was a Poké Ball on Karsten's belt as well.

In the anime, Karsten was shown to have a reliable partner—Ampharos.

Given his age, even with mediocre talent, that Ampharos should be at least Elite-level.

And besides…

A man who married a Joy surely has something going for him. It can't just be charm, right?

Peter glanced at Karsten's shiny bald head, then shook his own.

Yeah. Definitely a powerhouse. No doubt about it.

"Indeedee, use psychic power to share my vision with everyone.

Zorua—infiltrate."

Orders flowed quickly.

A soft psychic web connected Peter and his Pokémon, instantly transmitting the internal layout to them all.

Zorua was the first to move—phasing into Ghost form and slipping inside, immediately working to free Karsten.

Peter waited patiently, eyes never leaving Mars.

At just the right moment—when she unconsciously shifted her waist again, her Poké Balls perfectly aligned with Peter's position—

"Now! Indeedee—Psychic Crush the Poké Ball switches!

Minimal energy leakage. Absolute precision!"

"Dee~!"

Indeedee pressed both palms against the wall, delivering a through-the-wall strike.

Six bluish-violet psychic beams condensed silently, then crossed dozens of meters in an instant—

Crack!

Five Poké Balls shattered at Mars's waist.

But one beam went slightly off—

instead of breaking, it released a massive purple bat.

[Crobat lv55 (Gym-tier Intermediate)]

"What?!"

Mars's expression changed instantly. "Enemy contact! All units on alert!"

"BOOM—!"

The next second, Vigoroth smashed the front door apart with a single punch, and Arboliva's fully charged Solar Beam erupted forth.

A blazing column of sunlight surged straight ahead!

"Hmph. Purugly!"

"Mrrrow—!"

The fat cat screeched and hurled a pitch-black Shadow Ball, intercepting the Solar Beam midair.

"BOOOOM—!!"

Smoke and shockwaves flooded the plant.

Peter didn't press the attack.

Instead, he let the smoke spread freely through the enclosed space.

Mars remained on guard for several seconds—but when no follow-up came, her heart sank.

"…Damn it. Crobat—clear the smoke!"

"It's already too late."

Peter's quiet sigh echoed.

During the chaos, Zorua had already tossed out Karsten's Poké Ball, dragging the man into a tunnel dug moments earlier.

That was Peter's real objective from the start—

Create chaos. Free the hostage.

Once Karsten was safe, Mars would be forced to hold back under Officer Jenny's pressure.

At that point, retreat would be her only option.

Crobat beat its wings violently, clearing the smoke.

The floor was empty.

Karsten was gone.

All that remained was a gaping hole in the ground—

and a furious Ampharos, electricity crackling around its body.

"Woo-woo—woo-woo—!"

At that moment, police sirens pierced the storm.

The gale outside had weakened enough for the sound to carry clearly.

"Purugly—Body Slam! Pin it!" Mars ordered, then snapped at a grunt,

"How much charge do we have?!"

"Reporting! Still short 15%!"

"…No time."

Mars clenched her teeth.

"Crobat—Air Slash! Break the ceiling. We're leaving!"

She shoved the massive battery into her pack and activated her flight gear.

A highly compressed Air Slash ripped upward—

CRASH!

The roof split open.

Mars shot into the sky, Purugly recalled instantly.

"Hmm?"

In a fleeting glance, she spotted Peter standing calmly by the entrance.

Their eyes met.

Peter made no move to stop her.

"Everyone else—move!" Mars barked.

"Yes, ma'am!"

The remaining grunts activated their gear—

But—

"Indeedee—Psyshock!

Lopunny—Quick Attack, then Flying Knee!"

Before they could react, the grunts were pinned by layered attacks.

Zorua emerged from the tunnel and knocked one out with a single claw swipe.

"You—!" Mars snarled. "Crobat, Air Slash!"

Peter barely lifted his eyelids.

"Substitute. Protect."

"Arbo~!"

Arboliva stepped forward.

The Substitute absorbed the first wave, and a rainbow barrier stopped the wind blades three meters short.

"Criminals! Drop your weapons and surrender immediately!"

Officer Jenny shouted from afar.

Mars hesitated—then gave Peter one last, searing look.

With a sharp turn, she vanished into the distance, becoming a black dot against the storm-cleared sky.

Peter raised an eyebrow.

Mission accomplished.

-----

Several hours later, with Officer Jenny's help, Karsten regained consciousness.

Including the two guards outside, six Team Galactic grunts were arrested on the spot.

The power plant resumed normal operation.

Electricity flowed back into nearby villages and cities.

Even the raging winds faded—as though the storm and the danger had retreated together.

"Well done, Peter!" Jenny said cheerfully as she loaded the grunts into the police vehicle.

"Just a day and a bit since I last saw you, and you've already helped me chalk up another major success!"

Peter waved dismissively.

"Spare me the pleasantries—let's talk real compensation.

Do you have any idea how much my partners and I went through to stall them?"

He pointed dramatically.

"Look at my Lopunny—fur nearly burned off!

Arboliva was practically beaten half to death!

Indeedee is suffering psychic overload—overworked brain, totally derpy now!

And worst of all—Vigoroth literally sacrificed its legs in this battle!"

All five Pokémon instantly put on pitiful, teary expressions.

Officer Jenny:

"...?"

Do you think I'm blind—or stupid?!
