Chapter 70 - Chapter 70 Spider Girl

There is a kind of net called internet,

the ones who addicted will fall in net,

staying at interest cafe whole day,

in front of computer with game to play.

At the door of Time Internet Cafe, Spider Girl checks Mr Solar's letter sent one year ago.

Which is to advise her to quit computer games, and devote herself instead to study a professional skill through watching teaching videos at Youtube.

Spider Girl is a cool girl, red hairs, tight suit and slender shape.

She pushes the door to the internet cafe, which is the door to the digital world,

where she can chat with her unmet friends at social media,

where she can play the game of DF, the top 1 game on the list,

where she can find everything that can entertain her.

Look at the mark of DF and the mark of Youtube,

here comes a question.

Whether she should play the game for fun

or she should watch teaching lessons for professional hacking knowledge?

Here she sits in front of computer, looking back Mr Solar's caution:

At the bench under Douglas fir of the forbidden forest,

Solar shares his experience with Lunar, speaking of social and media addition.

Solar: Speaking of social and media addition, I'd like to introduce you Spider Girl.

That is the girl who got addicted to computer games.

He watches upon the moon, looking back his lesson to Spider Girl:

I don't know how to begin a story.

Should I tell you a fairytale which always begins with once upon a time?

Should I tell you something that I can remember at Time Internet Cafe?

One year ago, at Time Internet Cafe, I found my student, Spider Girl, who had been absent in the class for a couple days.

She looked terrible with panda's dark circles under her eyes, as if she had been playing the computer game for two days without sleeping.

I came and sat next to her.

I asked what kind of game do you play?

She replied, DF, with a low voice,

as if she had no energy to speak louder than the sound of hitting keyboard.

I kept in silence, observing how did she play for a little while.

After knowing the rules of DF, I asked her to play the game with me.

She agreed and tried to teach me a lesson in the game.

I might be a beginner, but I always had the beginner's luck.

She was out of luck, because she lost to me each single round.

She said again, again, again over again.

She got tired of playing the game of DF, because she couldn't find the joy back,

when she was the one who got a lesson in the game.

She asked me if I had ever played the game of DF before?

My answer was no,

which disappointed her, and discouraged her faith on gaming.

We were beginning to talk about study and dream.

I asked about the reason why would she skip her class to Time Internet Cafe?

She replied that she doesn't want to waste her time,

sitting in the class and learning nothing is not as good as playing the game of DF at Time Internet Cafe.

As a faithful teacher, I was aware of my duty and responsibility to offer guidance.

She just got lost at life's crossroads.

To study professional knowledge in the class

or to play computer games at the Internet cafe?

She chose to play computer games at the interest cafe, because temporary pleasure like playing the computer game is over long-term reward like getting a good grade.

She needs to escape from heavy workloads,

she needs to release her academic stress,

she needs to play the computer game to have fun.

I understood her feelings,

that is why I played the game of DF with her.

After playing the game of DF together, she could be able to share her problem with me.

She said she got addicted to social media and video games.

Social media and video games are designed to be additive.

I comforted her that everyone would be addicted to social media and video games, but some of us would know when to quit and how to refrain the addition.

She asked if she should quit playing the video games or not?

I had to offer her a reason to quit playing the video games, a reason to leave the digital world, and a reason to come back the reality.

So here is what I replied:

I know how much you enjoy social media and video games,

I know how much fun do you have in front of screen,

I know how much potential do you have within your body.

I'm not saying you should never play video games, I'm saying you should think about what could you do with those hours that you have pent on video games?

Learning a skill that you have always wanted to try, spending time outdoors or even just being present with people who care about you?

I've noticed the panda's dark circles under your eyes,

you must have aslo skipped sleeping for gaming.

I've noticed that after long gaming sessions you sometimes feel drained and irritable, or like the day just disappeared.

It's time to move away from the screen.

You're gonna feel more in control of your mood and your time. I promise you.

The digital world can feel safer, but it is also limited.

There are experiences, conversations and moments that no game can replicate.

Don't fill your time with social media and video games.

It's a precious and beautiful youth that leads to a beautiful future.

Meet more faces, explore more places, and have more experiences,

you're gonna be proud of that one day. I promise you.

Solar moves his gaze away from the moon, knowing one more student was saved.

Lunar listens to his story, wondering how often did Spider Girl skip her class to the internet cafe, and if she could quit gaming.

Lunar: How often did she skip her class to the internet cafe?

Solar: Three times in a week. Each time she skips, she would be absent in the class for a couple days.

Lunar: Did she had ever quit gaming yet?

Solar: Yes. She still went to the internet cafe, but she went to learn a professional skill through teaching videos at Youtube.
