Chapter 13 - Watched

The screen didn't shake.

That was the first thing Emily noticed.

Whoever was filming… wasn't hiding.

They were steady. Controlled,Watching.

Emily's fingers trembled as she held up the phone, her breath coming in shallow bursts. The live feed showed her and Dylan from behind—clear, close… too close.

"Dylan…" her voice barely came out. "They're right here."

Dylan's jaw tightened as he slowly turned, his eyes scanning the darkness beyond the trees. The secluded spot that once felt safe now felt suffocating—like the walls were closing in.

"I don't see anyone," he muttered, but his voice lacked confidence.

The soft crunch of gravel echoed.

Both of them froze.

Then—

A slow clap.

Deliberate.

Mocking.

From the shadows, a figure stepped forward.

Daniella.

Her expression was calm, almost amused, as she lowered her phone slightly, though the camera was still clearly recording.

"Wow," she said softly, tilting her head. "This is… even better than I imagined."

Emily's heart dropped.

"Daniella, stop this," she snapped, trying to steady herself. "This isn't funny."

"Funny?" Daniella echoed, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Oh, Emily… I'm not laughing."

She took another step closer.

"I'm documenting."

Dylan stepped in front of Emily instinctively, his voice hard. "Turn it off. Now."

Daniella's smile widened.

"Or what?"

Silence.

Heavy. Dangerous.

Then she lifted the phone slightly, letting them both see the screen.

"Do you know how easy it would be?" she continued softly. "One click… and everyone sees this."

Emily's stomach dropped.

"No…" she whispered.

Daniella's eyes flickered with satisfaction.

"The perfect couple," she went on. "Sneaking around. Lying to everyone. Betraying Ivy…" she paused, her gaze sharpening, "and Jack."

At his name, something shifted.

Dylan's fists clenched.

"This has nothing to do with him."

Daniella let out a quiet laugh.

"Oh, it has everything to do with him."

Earlier That Night

Jack sat on the edge of his bed, his bandaged hand resting on his knee. His phone screen glowed in the dim light, a single message staring back at him.

Unknown Number: "You deserve to know the truth."

Below it—

A video.

His thumb hovered over the screen.

Then he tapped it.

The moment it played, his entire body went still.

Emily.

Dylan.

Together.

Not just talking.

Not just standing close.

But everything.

Every glance. Every touch.

Every truth he had been denying himself.

Jack's breathing slowed, dangerously calm.

The storm inside him… quieted.

And in its place—

Something colder.

Something sharper.

His phone buzzed again.

Unknown Number: "Meet me tomorrow. We can help each other."

Jack stared at the message for a long moment.

Then, slowly—

He smiled.

Back to the Courtyard

Emily shook her head, panic rising. "What do you want, Daniella?"

Daniella didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she stepped closer, her voice dropping to a near whisper.

"Control."

Her gaze shifted slightly—

Past them.

To the darkness behind.

Emily frowned. "What—"

Footsteps.

Another presence.

Slow.

Measured.

Familiar.

Dylan turned sharply.

And Emily's breath caught in her throat.

Jack stepped into the dim light.

His expression unreadable.

Cold.

Different.

"Jack…?" Emily whispered.

But something about him felt… wrong.

Daniella smiled, satisfied.

Right on time.

Jack's gaze moved from Dylan… to Emily.

Lingering.

Calculating.

Then he spoke—

quietly.

"So… this is the truth."
