Julian did not realize where Rebecca was taking him until the car stopped.
He had expected a conversation. Another one of her measured pauses, another set of partial answers that gave him enough to stay upright and not enough to feel settled. Instead, she had called him less than an hour after he left Lucian standing in the street and told him to come downstairs. No explanation. No room to refuse. By the time he got into the car, she had already decided the next move.
The building in front of them did not look like a hospital.
That was the first thing he noticed.
There was no bright emergency entrance, no visible crowd, no movement that suggested public access. The structure was narrow and quiet, its front sealed behind dark glass and clean lines that gave away nothing from the street. The sign near the door carried only a name Julian did not recognize, something too neutral to mean anything on its own.
