The reaction did not settle after it surged.
It remained beneath Julian's skin, steady and present, no longer behaving like something that would fade if he waited long enough. His breathing had slowed, but not completely, and his hand still carried a quiet tension, as though releasing it too quickly might trigger the same response again.
Lucian did not move immediately.
His attention had shifted away from Julian and toward the room itself, his focus narrowing in a way that was precise rather than uncertain. It was not hesitation. It was recognition.

"What is it," he asked.
