"Alpha, we found this woman at one of our bases. She claims you know her," one of the men reported cautiously.
Henri shifted lazily on the couch, irritation flashing across his face.
"Some woman barges into one of my bases saying she knows me, and you idiots think it's smart to bring her straight to my hideout?" he snarled. The men flinched instantly under the weight of his anger.
"A… Alpha," the man stammered, "s-she said she's Gérard's mother."
Henri's head snapped up sharply.
"What?" he barked.
The man nodded quickly. "Yes, Alpha. She said her name is Carine."
Henri's expression darkened.
"Bring her in."
A moment later, the door opened again. One of his men dragged in a woman by her arm, releasing her when she yanked herself free, her gaze locked onto Henri.
"What do you want?" he asked coldly.
Why was she here? The last he had heard, she was under the King's protection. Had she been cast out?
"I'm here to make a deal," she said, straightening herself.
