Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Night Humanity Refused to Fall

"I… cannot fail again…"

"I… will protect them all."

The air froze.

Jake's breathing echoed softly, as if time itself had stopped.

Before him stood the giant monster—a black silhouette beneath a purple sky split apart by two clashing lights: brilliant blue from Jake Hill, and deep violet from the colossal embodiment of destruction.

The two auras collided midair, cracking the heavens like shattering glass.

Blinding light pierced through the clouds. Wind spiraled into a violent vortex, swallowing dust, fire, and the broken remains of Sena City.

The earth trembled. From above, blue and violet lightning tore through one another—marking the duel of two powers that were never meant to exist in the same world.

Jake stared forward. His eyes burned.

The monster stared back, a horrifying smile carved across its black steel face.

One second of silence.

Then the world exploded.

---

"AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

Jake roared, launching into the sky like a living blue meteor.

Magic aura wrapped around his body, forming a storm of blue flames that thundered with every kick against the wind. In a single breath, he shot forward—

BOOM!

He slammed into the giant's chest.

The impact shook the entire battlefield.

Blue light flared so brightly that the citizens of Sena covered their eyes. The explosion sounded like a thousand thunderclaps crashing together.

"Come on, Jake…! YOU CAN DO IT!!" one soldier screamed from the cracking gates.

Jake pushed harder, driving into the monster's steel chest with a guttural roar.

"RAHHHHHHH!"

But the giant's smile did not fade.

As if the attack meant nothing.

With one slow yet overwhelming motion, the monster lifted its arm—and flung Jake away like a rag doll.

BOOOOMMM!

Jake's body shot high into the night sky, spinning helplessly.

The wind screamed past his ears, and below him—the world looked like a sea of fire.

"No… Jake lost!!"

The cries echoed through the city.

Jake staggered midair, eyes fixed on the violet-stained sky.

Pain burned through his body; every bone felt shattered.

He looked up at the moon—pale, cold, indifferent—and gave a bitter smile.

"Did I… fail?"

Memories flashed before him:

Laughter. The clash of swords.

And one voice he knew best.

"You're too soft, Jake!"

"At this rate, you'll always be a loser!"

Rei's voice echoed in his mind.

Jake closed his eyes.

"You're right… Rei… I am weak."

Silence.

One final breath—

Before his body fell from the sky like a dying star.

---

But hands reached out.

The Indosvara troops ran forward, catching Jake before he could hit the ground.

"Catch him!!" "Hurry!!"

Jake collapsed among them, breathing heavily.

"Sena… must not… fall…"

The soldiers looked toward the gates.

In the distance, the giant slowly stepped back—

Then suddenly charged forward again.

---

BLARRRR!!!

The gates of Sena exploded.

Shockwaves tore through the air, toppling towers and hurling people to the ground. Boulders the size of carriages flew like missiles. Homes crumbled. Bodies were thrown aside.

Screams shattered the night.

"Run!!" "The monster broke through!!"

Flames licked the sky.

The air reeked of metal and ash.

Amid the chaos, Ryu, Evelyn, Leon, Asta, and a young woman stood frozen before the nightmare unfolding in front of them.

"Quick, we have to run!!" Evelyn shouted, tears in her eyes.

"She's right," Asta said. "We can't die for nothing!"

Leon grabbed Ryu's arm. "Move!"

But Ryu didn't move.

His gaze was empty—yet inside burned a fury threatening to consume him.

"No… I won't run again."

"If I die here, I'll die fighting!"

"I'll kill you… you damn monsters!!"

His voice shook the air.

Evelyn pulled him hard.

"Ryu!! We survive first! If we die now, who will avenge them?!"

He hesitated.

Then nodded.

They ran—alongside hundreds of screaming citizens fleeing the collapsing city of Sena.

---

Suddenly, the sky darkened.

The giant monster vanished into violet mist—as if absorbed into the air itself.

Silence.

"He… disappeared?" "Is it over…?"

But peace lasted only a heartbeat.

From beyond the shattered gates, hundreds of monsters—two to three meters tall—advanced in unison, their shadows devouring the firelight.

They moved like a black tide.

The ground shook beneath their march.

"Damn it!" Asta cursed. "They're heading for the city!"

The Indosvara commander drew his sword.

"ALL UNITS, TAKE YOUR POSITIONS!" "DON'T LET A SINGLE ONE THROUGH!"

Cavalry, archers, and mages readied themselves.

Armor clanged. Bowstrings tightened.

The cracked gate was now guarded by thousands who refused to surrender.

"Archers! Aim for the red core on their chests! That's their life point!"

Silence.

Then—

"FIRE!!!"

Hundreds of glowing arrows shot into the sky, raining down like luminous death.

Monsters were struck—

Yet they kept coming.

Steel clashed with claws.

Blood mixed with dust.

Magic split the night apart.

---

"AHHHHHHH!!!"

Soldiers were thrown aside. Others rose again despite fallen comrades at their feet.

The commander stood at the front line, violet light reflecting in his eyes.

"DO NOT RETREAT!!" "WE ARE THE LAST BASTION OF HUMANITY!!" "FIGHT YOUR FEAR!!"

His voice thundered.

Hands trembled.

But no one stepped back.

They fired again.

And again.

Until bows snapped.

Until fingers bled.

---

Then—

A streak of blue light flashed from the ruins.

"Hey. What's with that look?"

The voice was sharp. Mocking. Confident.

The commander turned—

Sai stood there, body covered in wounds, eyes blazing blue.

"Are you shaking?" "A real man never retreats… even if he knows he'll lose." "What matters is… pride."

The soldiers stared as if witnessing salvation.

Sai looked toward the raging horde.

"If they breach Sena…"

"Where would I put my pride?"

A faint smirk touched his lips.

"Watch me… and admire me, Commander."

"I'll show you… what a true warrior looks like."

---

The earth trembled.

Blue light erupted from Sai's body, carving magic lines across the air.

ZRAAAKKK!!!

He vanished.

In less than a heartbeat, streaks of blue tore through the battlefield, cutting down anything in their path.

The air burned.

Arcane symbols danced across the sky in glowing patterns between blood and flame.

One slash. Two. Three.

Countless.

Monsters split apart, turning into black ash before hitting the ground.

"YAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!"

An explosion of light blinded the battlefield.

In under a minute, the front ranks of monsters were annihilated.

Sai stood in a circle of smoldering ash.

Breathing heavily.

But victorious.

"For the first time that night…"

"Humanity had won a small victory."

---

Sena bled.

But its fire did not die.

Two months later, the ruins rose again.

The gates were rebuilt.

The army reformed.

And at the heart of it all stood a new symbol of hope:

The Monster Hunter Training Academy.

---

That morning, Jake Hill stood proudly before hundreds of young recruits.

Behind him, the banner of Indosvara waved beneath the first true sunlight in months.

Ryu, Evelyn, Leon, Asta, and the others stood at the front.

No more fear.

Only resolve.

They pressed their right hands to their chests.

One voice thundered as one:

"For humanity. For Indosvara."

Jake smiled faintly.

Scars still marked his face.

But his eyes burned brighter than ever.

Ryu stared forward, fists clenched.

Inside his heart, a vow echoed silently:

"I will kill you… you damn monsters."

"No mercy."

The sky stretched wide above them—blue once more, yet still scarred by memory.

But beyond that—

The fire of human resistance had just begun.

To be continued…
