Chapter 7 - The Start (7)

'a lie that's a truth.'

Oh, how long has it been since I've heard that line? The idol who lies to everyone, scared of the truth. Who was she? Just a fictional character.

Although, that would be boring, and boring is not really my style. "Is that right, 'A'?" I figured she would take the usual NPC design. Then she pulls out an ironic witch hat.

But I wonder..., for what reason she and the other witches dare to challenge the God of Wind again? Of course, the wind refuses to take hands with mere witches; instead took a duel of sunshine and rainbows at a teatime.

"Sir Endrick, trick or treats!" She spooked, raising her hands up as she jumped. "... Not funny." I replied, tossing myself to the couch.

"Gee..."

My brain is all dozing out. I can't concentrate at all without overthinking. At least for now, I do not have to look at myself and start insulting my wound.

But they didn't die, right? I only knocked them out with my hands, nothing big of a deal.

[knock knock!]

"Hello?" Someone called from outside, I stood up to the door, taking a quick peek. "Is anyone there?" Clothes... These clothes look like how cops would wear.

Wait, I'm not going to jail, am I? What did I seriously do to get some strangers in suits coming over to my house?

Is it because this house seems as if ghosts would live in it?

I opened the door, looking naive. "Yes?" I let out a warm smile at them, definitely to cheer the mood up.

That's impossible, I didn't commit any crimes yet. Wait, don't say that.

That's impossible!!! I would rather die than to know I have done something against the laws—"You're under arrest." He said, nonchalantly taking out their identity card as a cop.

I felt my heart shattered in pieces, falling to the ground. My brain goes rotting in the corner, unable to think straight. "...What?"

"We apologize for this sudden approach. Albeit from your actions, you have broken some of the laws in the kingdom and needs to be taken."

"Sir sirs, could you address the laws that I have committed?" I really need to know, I just got into this world yesterday. Was it actually yesterday?

"Yes. If you're unaware, you have committed kidnapping, assault, and improper manners to citizens."

"I'm sorry... What?" I'm truly in shock. Who reported me, saying I did these? Was it those guys?

Because these are all offensive to me!

"Yes, yet again, we apologize for this sudden approach. But we still need to take you to the station."

But I can tell you one thing that you can't say that so nonchalantly with your body forcefully sharpened, cop.

Hmm...

I glanced over to Emi, who was sitting on the couch, watching us. "Will this make them feel guilty?" I thought.

"Sir?" I turned back to them, nodding. "Sure. But can I take her with me?"

"Of course." He agreed.

Fortunately, he agreed though. That's not something to be ungrateful of, and he knows it well as a cop, too!

Who would leave their child in the house all alone for hours?? Not me, definitely.

I can tell the intensity as we walk down the town to the office.

It is either Daniel or those guys, overall, those guys might've had planned this to report me after waking up.

Technically, they use improper manners, too, and I'm not an outsider. Well, I am—they dare report the author?!

What if it is Daniel? He doesn't seem like a guy who would do that, right?

"Brought them." The cop spoke, opening the door. Exposing the guys in the room, they looked at us.

"It is him!" One of them shouted, pointing at me. Confused, I, too, pointed at myself, tilting my head. "Me?"

"Yes, you!" The others took a rather glare look as Emi gripped behind me tightly. "What's with me?"

"Don't act as if you don't know what's going on!"

Huh...?

"Enough." He slammed at the desk, gazing at us. "You guys argue like children." I'm standing with you on this line, sir.

I nodded. "What do you have to say?" I wasn't sure to what I want to say. "Uhm..." My hand slowly reaches up to rub at the back of my neck.

"If you're nervous, we could talk it out in another room." He spoke. Albeit this is odd—I'm supposed to be executed instead.

"Sure" I agreed. She tugged my shirt, shaking her head. "Do you want to come along?" She's visibly shaking, giving a shrug in response.

"... Hah?" Raising an eyebrow, I tilted my head. She's shaking her head... But she's not speaking! Speak! —I figured, if I studied her bit by bit, I would understand her; it seems I'm not halfway in the process...

One of them scoffed at our pathetic faces. "This guy is obviously acting, to trick the officer into believing him." As usual, people will say that.

Plus, I haven't argued back yet; so, why is he accusing me for something I haven't said yet?

"What did I say?" I asked, glancing at them.

"You thought I was accusing you because of what you say?" He chuckled.

One thing: among them four, the front seems to be the leader for standing up and pointed at me, even without any evidence in his hands. "Hm, nice persona." I complimented.

If those words would make him go embarrassed, I'd rather speak it silently, for his sake.

I nodded, accepting that foolish line from me. "I indeed did." Deep down, I'm actually serious about it.

Don't shut me up like that.

If anything, I'd rather that luxurious old man to stare at me dead in the eyes than get slammed by an argument combo, even Daniel wouldn't do that, right?

But a moment ago, I was shivering my timbers while walking to this place with the officer. Now, I'm holding my giggles for my first meeting with that luxurious old man.

"Let's settle this in a way we all could understand perfectly, shall we?" I said, offering him a seat as I walked over to at the other with her beside me.

"Great, or I might just kick you all out of this room for another unnecessary argument." The officer said, sat on his own chair behind the desk.

"Right." I agreed. "I didn't do anything wrong except taking hands on them." I stated, keeping my style elegant. "Don't start acting the innocent." He interrupted after.

"Why do you think that?"

"It is obvious you're saying that to get away from being guilty!"

"I only knocked you guys out to defend her, nothing more." I responded, "Nonsense, you must've done something wrong with her, since she's our little sister!"

That caught me with a shocking face.

Little sister of four older brothers? Brothers that chased her down and made her face as if disturbed and terrified for life? If those are a thing in their relation, it would be hatred and wanting.

Wanting for the young to die from their hands, why? Is her existence a distribution in their lives?

"Doesn't justify any of your actions either way." I replied back, glancing at her and back to them—there's no way I'll ever mistaken my own story.

"Are you saying yours is more of a saint?" He laughed at his own words. "You say that as if clueless..." I looked at him, unmoved iris from his face.

Whether related or not, doesn't justify the actions of a person, if it has been done. Unless that person is willing to do for forgiveness from the victim.

Yet he didn't consider thinking twice and bragged about it anyway.

"What are you talking about?"

"None of you aren't actually related, are you?" I asked, to confirm my clues. He only gets to tittered from it, cackle or a simple laugh. "Oh, we've solved it already?" I said, turning to the officer.

"Are you seriously trying to end the conversation?!" He yelled. "Can't you socialize?"

It sounds so ingenuine. Where are his parents? Is he an orphan?

"Not quite, you didn't add information. But go ahead and explain your clues." He said, his finger taps the desk as a timer, I swallowed hard.

They can't be related; it is not signed.

"Officer, that guy tried to kill us and he kidnapped our little sister!" He exclaimed, pointing at me. Though the tension just grows.

"I didn't. If I had tried to kill, it wouldn't be considered trying; if I were to kidnap your little sister for violent purposes, she would be dead by now, no?"

"I had my rights to be there."

I don't know why, I didn't know why. But hearing him talk one bit boils me. Is his ego that high to not know such common sense? How was he raised, and not just—how were they raised?

He didn't have a decent childhood for sure.

"... Why would you be there?" His eyebrows narrowed to my response. Is he glaring at me? "As her father, I should and must protect her from all cost."

"Her father?!" He jumped, surprised. "You, accusing me for stepping in is an act of immaturity." He crossed his arms. "So, what if I'm immature?"

"And what evidence do you have to claim yourself as her father?" You're right, I'm her father figure, not biological father. But technically, I'm still a father to her.

"Do not question it too much, we're... Just related."

"You can ask her." She nodded instantly. "He is really my daddy—"

I interrupted. "Right, even she says that I'm her father!" I hold on to her wrist. If she were to continue speaking afterwards, I'm going to jump off.

That almost cringed me hard, and I want to hold my laugh. She should've said "father" instead of that.

I let out a titter at her. "Right?" Considering she isn't so thoughtful at this age, especially in a situation like this. What is she thinking of? Does she know I'm going to jail?

She nodded, innocently. With a smile after my titter.

My heart is pounding so quick, I can hear it. I turned to the officer, who seemed to be concerned.

"I'll submit myself." I said, gazing at him sharply.

"Any other accusations?" I turned to them, who was silenced. What were they silenced for?

The officer took the time to clear his throat before speaking. "This is settled for now..." I nodded.

"I guess so" I chuckled.

While I'm at it, I'm in hope to know she'll do well without me. Find confidence in something, without me to be there; so, she wouldn't need to be that dependent towards me.

Emi wouldn't be that much of a coward, is she?

Even so, Maria would be there. I grant that hope!

"Is that enough for you guys to stay away?"

"Seriously? You're just going to say that?"

"My apologies if it offends you, but it is for her sake." He sighed in frustration.

"Get over it, there are better things you guys could do than bothering people around."

Sometimes I want to control time, since saying this is too embarrassing for me to say in front of many people.

Doesn't change my mind, either way. I'm not letting them touch a single strand from her hair! If so, I'm going to report them.

That's right.

I'm going to report them whether they're a royal or not!

"Then, we will submit you in for few days. Is that okay?" He asked, taking notes of something on a paper.

"I won't mind. As long as she's in a good condition while at it."

He noted. "I see..."

That's how I got into jail... I guess.
