Amara's POV:
My phone rang and I almost dropped it.
Liam's name flashed on the screen and I answered before the second ring.
"Liam?"
"Whoa, chill. You okay?" His voice sounded completely normal. "I just saw like five missed calls. Did someone die?"
I sat down hard on my couch and the relief hit me so fast I felt dizzy. "Where were you?"
"Library with my headphones in studying for this econ exam tomorrow." He paused. "Why? What's going on?"
"Nothing. I just needed to talk to you."
"At nine PM on a Sunday? You only call when Mom makes you check on me." He laughed. "What'd I do this time?"
"You didn't do anything."
"Then why do you sound like you're about to cry?"
"I'm not about to cry."
"Liar." His voice got softer and I could hear the concern underneath the teasing. "Seriously, what happened? You're freaking me out."
