Amara's POV :
I woke up to sunlight pouring through the gap in my curtains and hitting me right in the face.
My first thought was that I'd forgotten to close them all the way. My second thought was that my head hurt like I'd been hit with something. Then everything from yesterday came rushing back and I groaned into my pillow.
My phone buzzed on the nightstand and I reached for it without opening my eyes.
A text from Sarah.
Sarah:Coffee today? Need to talk.
I squinted at the screen and typed back with one hand.
Me: Can't today. Working on something. Tomorrow?
Sarah: You've been saying that for a week. You're avoiding me.
Me: I'm not. I promise I'll explain everything soon.
Sarah:You better. You've suddenly been awol
I put the phone down and stared at the ceiling. The plaster had a crack running across it that I'd never noticed before and I traced it with my eyes while my brain tried to wake up.
There was a soft knock on my door.
