The only unexpected part was the decision made by her own son, Noritsuna Kamo.

He claimed that since he could not become a Jujutsu sorcerer anyway, there was no point staying in the clan. He would rather leave with his mother and live as an ordinary person.

Of course, the Kamo Clan had little reason to object.

Ever since Noritoshi Kamo was officially recognized as the legitimate heir, Noritsuna Kamo had already lost whatever standing he once had through the legal wife. His departure would only make things easier for the clan.

With both mother and son gone, the clan could erase the remaining traces of the matter and avoid any future trouble.

And that was exactly what Noritsuna Kamo wanted.

As a transmigrator, Akira had no intention of spending his second life in a clan where Jujutsu determined everything. Without talent for Jujutsu, he would always be treated as inferior, no matter what else he accomplished.

Why should he put up with that?

The world was enormous. There were countless places to go and countless things he could do. Why insist on staying somewhere that did not welcome him?

Without the Kamo Clan, without Jujutsu, I can still live perfectly well.

If I can't even manage that, then what was the point of my previous twenty-six years of life?

With that thought, Akira had made his decision without hesitation.

Even the extremely strict binding contract required to leave the clan could not change his mind.

A binding contract was an ancient form of agreement enforced by Cursed Energy. Unlike an ordinary contract, breaking it could bring severe consequences, making it something no sensible person would violate lightly.

One of the conditions even required him to live in a designated location under the Kamo Clan's surveillance for five years.

Akira accepted it anyway.

Five years might seem long to an ordinary person, but he was still young. Youth was his greatest advantage, and he had plenty of time to build a better future.

He had considered almost everything before leaving the clan.

Unfortunately, there was one thing he had failed to consider.

Fate had never been particularly reasonable.

Just when Akira had finished making arrangements and thought he would have to rely entirely on himself, the cheat that every transmigrator dreamed of finally awakened.

The Pokémon Trainer System!

It even came with a beginner gift package containing a Pokémon Egg.

And what hatched from that egg was none other than Ralts, the initial form of the evolutionary line that led to Kirlia and Gardevoir.

At that moment, Akira finally understood how a poor scholar must have felt after unexpectedly passing the imperial examination.

After all, he had originally been prepared to live an ordinary life, avoiding the dangers of the Jujutsu world while slowly making something of himself.

Who would have expected such a surprise?

A Pokémon!

And a Ralts at that!

If his stomach had not eventually started growling from hunger, Akira suspected he could have spent the entire day celebrating.

As for what happened afterward, there was nothing particularly complicated about it.

He raised his Pokémon.

Akemi Aki did not question the matter too deeply, either.

Having lived in a world where Cursed Spirits and Jujutsu sorcerers existed, she was hardly someone who would reject everything that went against common sense. Besides, she had long known that her adopted son was far from an ordinary child.

And so, eight years passed.

The little Ralts that had hatched from an egg gradually grew, evolved into Kirlia, and finally became the Gardevoir standing beside him today.

With Gardevoir's current strength, there were already very few things in the world that could genuinely threaten Akira.

His age was right, the timing was right, and the conditions were finally in place.

It was time to leave the mountains and see the outside world.

After all, he had come into this world with knowledge of the future. If he simply hid away for the rest of his life, wouldn't all that knowledge go to waste?

And since he possessed a Pokémon Trainer System, how could he possibly be satisfied with raising only one Pokémon?

The more Akira thought about it, the more certain he became.

"Mom, you've worked hard these past eight years."

Akira looked at Akemi Aki and smiled.

"From now on, you don't have to hold yourself back anymore. You can finally go after the future you want."

Those words were meant for his mother, but they also reflected his own feelings.

He had endured eight years of restrictions and surveillance precisely so that one day, he would no longer have to endure anything.

Akira stood up and took his mother's hand with one hand while holding Gardevoir's with the other.

These were the two most important people in his life.

As long as they were beside him, he had nothing to fear from whatever came next.

Akemi Aki looked at the boy in front of her. She did not immediately agree, but neither did she reject his suggestion.

After a long hesitation, she finally spoke.

"Akira, about the choice you mentioned earlier... There's something I want to ask you."

"Hm? What is it?"

"If I had to choose between staying here and returning to Kenki's side, what would you want me to do?"

Akira blinked.

He had expected her to ask something more complicated, but it turned out she was still worrying about this.

"Isn't it about the same either way?"

"About the same?" Akemi Aki repeated, looking somewhat surprised.

"Of course." Akira nodded as though the answer were obvious. "If you stay with me, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life. You won't have to worry about anything."

"And if I go back?"

"Then you're still my mom, aren't you?"

Akira looked at her strangely.

"Just because you go back to Kenki doesn't mean I suddenly stop being your son. I can still visit you whenever I want. Who says I can't be filial to my mother just because we don't live together?"

He paused before adding with complete confidence, "And if Kenki has a problem with that, I'll just beat him up."

"Akira!"

"What? I'm serious."

Seeing his mother's expression, Akira chuckled.

"Anyway, just don't favor him too much when I visit. I'm your son too, you know."

Akemi Aki stared at him for a moment, unsure whether she should laugh or scold him.

Akira, however, did not think there was anything wrong with his answer.

As the saying went, with reason on your side, you could go anywhere. Without reason, you could hardly take a single step.

And Akira happened to possess both reason and the strength to back it up.

What was there to be afraid of?

"...I understand."

After hearing his answer, Akemi Aki finally relaxed.

For all these years, she had been worried that her own wishes might hurt one of her sons. Yet Akira seemed to have thought about the matter far more simply than she had.

He was right.

No matter where she went, their relationship would not change.

Looking at the confident boy before her, Akemi Aki could not help smiling.

"You really have grown up."

"Of course I have."

"A mother can't keep her son beside her forever." She sighed softly. "If you want to move, then let's move. We've already lived here for eight years, and this place has become rather quiet."

Hearing that, Akira's eyes immediately brightened.

"Mom is the best!"

Out of habit, he reached forward and tried to lift Akemi Aki into the air, just as he had done when celebrating with her in the past.

In his mind, however, he was already thinking about something else.

Tokyo, here I come!

A new city, a much wider world, more Pokémon to discover, and countless opportunities waiting for him.

Just thinking about it was enough to make his heart race.

Since he had been given a second life, he naturally wanted to accomplish something worthwhile. Otherwise, wouldn't transmigrating have been a complete waste?

Unfortunately, before Akira could celebrate properly, a hand struck the top of his head.

Smack!

"Ouch!"

"Have some manners!" Akemi Aki scolded him. "I'm your mother, not some little girl for you to pick up whenever you feel like it."

Akira quickly withdrew his hands and rubbed his head.

"Okay, okay. I get it."

Akemi Aki gave him another look before turning toward Gardevoir, who had been quietly watching their conversation.

"By the way, what is her name now?"

"Gardevoir," Akira answered.

"Sa."

Gardevoir gave a soft cry, responding obediently when she heard her name.

Akemi Aki nodded.

"Then, Gardevoir, starting today, you'll have to sleep in a separate room from Akira."

"Huh?"

"Sa?"

Akira and Gardevoir both turned toward her at almost the same time.

Akemi Aki's expression remained serious.

"It was fine when you were both little, but you've grown up now. Sleeping together like that is no longer appropriate."

She paused for a moment before asking, "Or are you planning to have a child together?"

"..."

Akira fell silent.

For a moment, his thoughts went somewhere they absolutely should not have gone.

Wait a minute.

As far as I remember, humans and Pokémon aren't even reproductively compatible, right?

He instinctively glanced toward Gardevoir.

Coincidentally, Gardevoir was also looking at him.

Her large eyes were filled with pure confusion, clearly having no idea what Akemi Aki was talking about.

Looking at that innocent expression, Akira suddenly felt ashamed of himself.

Slap!

He raised a hand and smacked his own face.

What the hell am I thinking?!

Regardless of whether it was biologically possible, that was not something he should be considering in the first place.

More importantly, Gardevoir was only eight years old!

Eight!

What's wrong with me?

Akira immediately threw those ridiculous thoughts out of his head.

He really needed to get his mind out of the gutter.

...

Tokyo, Taito Ward.

Inside an ordinary three-bedroom apartment, the three members of the Ake family, Akemi Aki, Akira, and Gardevoir, were seated around an oak dining table.

The apartment was not particularly large, and the furnishings were quite simple. Still, after spending eight years living in the countryside, the place already felt like a proper new home.

A small banquet had been prepared on the dining table.

Akira raised his glass with an excited smile.

"To our new home and our new life!"

"Cheers!"

"Sa!"

Clink!

Three glasses came together with a clear sound.

Nearly half a month had passed since the night Akira and Akemi Aki had talked about their future.

Although they had already decided to move to Tokyo, actually carrying out that decision was another matter entirely.

After living in the countryside for eight years, they had accumulated plenty of belongings. Packing everything, deciding what to bring, finding a suitable apartment, and handling all the necessary procedures took considerably more effort than Akira had first expected.

Fortunately, this was the modern era.

Thanks to the internet, finding available apartments and checking the surrounding neighborhoods was much easier than searching for everything in person.

Otherwise, Akira suspected the whole process might have taken a month or even longer.

Still, everything had gone smoothly in the end.

They had found an apartment they liked, completed the necessary arrangements, and finally settled down.

Naturally, such an occasion deserved a proper celebration.

And so, the three members of the Ake family worked together to prepare a small banquet.

It was nothing especially luxurious, but everyone had contributed, and the atmosphere was quite lively.

Akemi Aki was responsible for cooking, while Akira helped by chopping vegetables and preparing the ingredients.

As for the remaining work, Gardevoir handled almost everything herself.

To be honest, Akira had long since discovered that Psychic Power was an extremely convenient ability.

It was useful in battle, of course, but its usefulness in everyday life was no less impressive.

Take washing vegetables, for example.

Under Gardevoir's control, several streams of water flowed through the air, carefully washing away the dirt from each vegetable before placing it neatly aside.

She could even perform several tasks at the same time without making a mess.

Watching this, Akira could not help feeling satisfied.

As expected, Psychic Power really is amazing.

And the best part was that these ordinary household chores also counted as training.

Although his Pokémon Trainer System allowed him to check a Pokémon's level, Akira had learned very early that reality was quite different from the games he remembered.

In a game, a Pokémon only needed to select a move and attack.

As long as the move hit, the damage would be calculated according to the game's rules.

Reality was nowhere near that simple.

The strength of an attack, the way it was used, the timing, the angle, the amount of energy consumed, and the user's control over that energy could all affect the result.

It was much like using a kitchen knife.

Give the same knife to a professional chef and a complete beginner, and the difference would immediately become obvious.

The knife itself had not changed.

What mattered was the person using it.

Pokémon moves worked in much the same way.

Because of this, Akira had placed great importance on Gardevoir's control over her abilities ever since she was still a little Ralts.

Rather than focusing only on increasing the power of her attacks, he had made her practice controlling Psychic Power with as much precision as possible.

At first, the exercises were extremely simple.

Moving small objects, keeping them suspended in the air, and performing delicate movements without damaging anything.

As her control improved, the exercises gradually became more complicated.

And since there were not many suitable monsters to fight in the countryside, much of Gardevoir's training had to be carried out through exercises Akira designed himself.

Fortunately, Psychic Power was especially suited to this kind of training.

Even ordinary household tasks could help improve her concentration and fine control.

After eight years of practice, Gardevoir had become exceptionally skilled at using her abilities.

Whether in the living room, the kitchen, or on the battlefield, she could handle herself with ease.

Of course, there was another advantage that Akira appreciated very much.

Having a Gardevoir around made housework incredibly convenient.

If every household had a Pokémon capable of using Psychic Power, Akira suspected plenty of household appliances would become unnecessary.

He took another satisfied look at Gardevoir before returning his attention to the dining table.

Now that the food was ready, it was time to enjoy their first proper meal in their new home.

Akemi Aki lifted her glass and took a small sip.

Beside her, Gardevoir carefully held her own glass with both hands, drinking in small mouthfuls while watching the others.

As for Akira...

Gulp! Gulp! Gulp!

He raised his glass and drank more than half its contents in one go.

"Ah!"

After putting the glass down, he even let out a satisfied burp.

Akemi Aki, who had been enjoying her drink, immediately frowned.

"Akira, mind your manners. You're not a little child anymore."

"We're at home, Mom."

Akira grinned and casually set his glass on the table.

"There aren't any outsiders here, so what's the problem?"
