The next morning we were shocked to wake up to a present. Well it didn't wake us up but when we congregated as a group for breakfast the talk of the school was the fact that someone was already 2-0. The gift was even better when the principal announced that in the school's history no team had done what they did the day before, in recognition he announced a visit to the armory for one piece to keep for each of us as our reward.
"You're so jealous! This has to be eating you alive!" Adam announced looking at the juniors table specifically Devin. Most people didn't hear him as everyone was murmuring about who the principal might have been referring to. Adam also wasn't exactly that loud of a human in the first place so basically only the freshmen heard it and it didn't make sense to them. I knew what he meant and I appreciated the comment.
When we entered the armory I wasn't sure what to expect but to be honest I wanted to stay and try them all. The room was immense with gear of all varieties and types from weapons, to armor, to magical trinkets. I couldn't have been happier that day to have [Wispy Vision] as I spent a long time looking over different options. I also think it planted the seeds for me and Maddy but who knows.
I came across a bow that was really weird. The handle was see through like glass but wasn't glass it was a pure crystal that also didn't have a string. I thought it was broken as I was admiring the detailed work on the crystal as it had patterns etched into the handle. My [Wispy Vision] said that this was an elemental bow that would enhance elemental magic attacks by twenty five percent. I held it in my hands completely confused on how this was a weapon, looking back and forth between it and another normal bow that was sitting next to it.
Mr. G scared the crap out of me at that moment appearing right behind me with a thoughtful tone "Hmm, an elemental bow for an elemental wisp. That actually might be the best choice for you as I had been pondering your situation since seeing it was you in Team Arcanum. I honestly doubt you will find anything in here better than that for you, excellent choice!"
"I technically have a sceptre already, you think I should get another weapon instead of armor or a magic enhancing trinket?" I inquired of Mr. Garcia as he was the principal, one would hope he would have good insight. He chuckled and walked over to a series of straps next to the chest armor. It had a small pouch on it that he adjusted the straps a couple times then asked me to hand him my sceptre. I handed it over without reproach beyond curious as to what he was doing with my sceptre.
He then told me to put my hands up and out and he proceeded to put the straps over my arms and onto my shoulder then tightened them as they made a criss cross along my back with the sceptre being in the center. At first it felt weird but now I completely forget it's there ninety five percent of the time. "This will allow you to utilize the benefits from the sceptre while also using a bow, it's a win-win and technically this isn't a piece of armor just an accessory so it's not like I'm giving you two things."
I had my choice done so I checked to see what everyone else was either looking for or had chosen already. Travis already had a shield but he too found a new one that he was in love with, it was a nature shield that could expand his shell further. Joey got a hat that had a property to return a weapon thrown meaning his sais would now be a ranged weapon. Abby found a lightning enhanced saber. Then Adam found an arcane enhanced machete. Maddy was the only one not to find one at that point.
I walked over to her and asked if I could help her decide on something offering insight into what she was looking at currently. "My vision hasn't lied to me yet, that armguard gives a twenty percent boost to life magic." Maddy was startled at first to hear my voice similar to how Mr. G startled me.
"Is that why I felt an attraction to it? I felt that before over there with a staff but wasn't sure what I was feeling but it was similar to these armguards. Can you help me then with finding life magic pieces and see which is best for me?" Maddy inquired with an expectant look in her eyes. It was as if looking into her eyes short circuited my brain. "Hmm, yup, done" is all I could get out pathetically.
I did however gather my composure and grabbed the staff that I knew she was talking about as it was the only one with life magic according to Wispy. Then as if I was supposed to see it there was a necklace on the other side of the armory that for whatever reason sparkled perfectly at the right moment to catch my eye. I walked over to it and once I could get its description I knew she would love it.
"This amulet if worn will give your life magic a ten yard aura meaning you will heal everyone within ten yards automatically from your aura, you could stand behind Travis and he could take damage all day and you would just heal him without thinking about it. This staff gives a 50% increase to life magic spells, so honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either but I would say the armguards are out of the question if you asked me." I offered the information and the options to her so she could make up her own mind. The look on her face was something I didn't realize at the time was her blushing but looking back on it, that was the first time she blushed at me.
We left the armory and went straight to the weapons training class. I went to the ranged targets and instantly sent a shot at the target thinking about an [Arcane Missile] while pulling on the invisible string. The bow glowed an arcane purple color as a string appeared in arcane purple then a purple arrow launched from the handle towards the target. The moment it left the bow past the handle the arrow then transformed into the missile. I didn't hit a bullseye but I was really surprised at how effortless it was.
I then thought about the attack spell [Icespike] and the handle glowed blue, a blue string appeared, a blue arrow released that then turned into a spike once past the handle. I hit the target again nowhere near the bullseye but was impressed to see the difference as well as how easy it was to simply fire the spell with my hands.
I lowered the bow so that it was horizontal with the ground and with a pinching motion I thought about the attack spell [Fireball]. The handle glowed red with fire energy, a red string appeared, a red arrow released and it expanded into a fireball once past the handle. I missed the target completely but the fireball kept going as if it was launched at an incredible power to keep going. It eventually dissipated in power and eventually became nothing.
I then thought about the defensive spells but I took aim this time to make sure I saw what it would produce. I was shocked to see the [Icewall] start as a blue arrow, turn into an [Icespike] but then when it hits it expands out into a six foot by six foot [Icewall]. I was shocked to see the transformations but also intrigued as I remembered I hadn't even tried any earth magic yet.
I concentrated on the [Boulder] attack spell on my next shot. The bow glowed green with earth energy, the green string appeared with a green arrow. The arrow launched and I could see a small little ball of earth at the end of the arrow. The arrow stayed in an arrow form till right before it got to the target it expanded out into a massive boulder connecting and smashing the target.
I thought about the [Arcane Barrier] spell and this time it acted like the [Boulder] but it appeared to expand out into the barrier as it hit the target which made me wonder if I could possibly shoot a barrier to wrap around someone to protect them. I shot again and the barrier enveloped the target confirming my suspicion that it read my intent.
I looked at our team who was all busy testing out their items and each discovering new things that they could do. I had a feeling then that we were going to do some awesome things together. I took a sip of my mana infused water that my mother had given me and another realization hit, I might one day be a one man army.
I continued to fire my bow as quickly as I could, draining my mana to a feeling I had never felt before. I could feel Wispy yelling at me as I pulled back on the string one last time to shoot off a [Fireball] trying to get more accurate with that particular shot as it was completely a straight line with no arch. I chugged the mana infused water till it was empty knowing I would have more in only a few minutes that would at least quench my thirst.
While I was sipping the liquid I had my eyes closed and Wispy was lecturing me. I could see him in my mind and noticed that all of my spells were listed above him and they were color coded into what type of element they encased. There were more spells written that I had never used or tried to use and some of which I had no idea what they would do.
I kept concentrating on the whole list and Wispy noticed that I was concentrating on them. 'Hey look if you want to unlock those you need to grow and also in time we will get there with all of those. It is why I put them there as we will naturally unlock them over time. There are others that I am sure we will learn over time but for now this is your spell book.'
'What am I looking at right now?" I inquired of Wispy not realizing what was going on as it felt like I had my eyes open but I was in his realm.
'Welcome, you finally have accessed what is called if you paid attention in class as the [Taming Space]. I haven't pushed you to come here as I knew at some point you would figure it out as you have subconsciously viewed it a couple times if you think about it.'
I did think about it and in fact I could remember the times that I felt it, and suddenly I realized that when I was releasing spells from my hands I was pulling from this realm in my mind. My hands suddenly started to glow as if I was about to cast a spell but only glowed for a moment and it was of each of the elemental colors.
'You will need to be able to access this space once you have another beast which I recommend we find a dragon egg to bring to the dragon core for your first. Otherwise I would suggest choosing between a Commander or a Champion since the dragon can be both.'
I looked around the space and it only had the listing of the spells that I knew and the ones he knew I would unlock. There was a room off in the distance that appeared to have a lot of books in it but I couldn't reach out to it and it felt like walking towards it meant it went further away.
'That will become available at gold rank when we get there. All in due time, concentrate on what lies ahead. I don't know how to put a value on your elemental affinity but if you look at your list you will see that arcane magic has a brighter tone to it. That is the only way I can express the elements inside of you and as you balance them out they will become less prominent in color. Currently you are much more powerful in Arcane than any other as it shows in its brightness.' Wispy updated me on his spellbook.
'Wait, did you just say I should get a dragon egg to bring to the dragon core, as in you think I should get a second beast now?' I inquired as I was replaying all that Wispy had just informed me about. Now all I was going to think about was getting a dragon for my second beast.
