The private elevator opened directly into Cassandra's penthouse.
Martin knew the Cassandra who wore a white business suit and could clear a path across an academy plaza with one look. He had also fought beside Kill Clause, the silver-haired hunter who stayed calm while monsters tore through everyone around her.
The woman waiting beyond the elevator looked like neither of them.
Cassandra wore a black silk shirt and loose dark trousers, and her long black hair hung freely around her shoulders. She was barefoot on the polished floor. Without an office or a character name to hide behind, she looked less untouchable than Martin had ever seen her.
Her crimson eyes settled on Martin first. "You came."
Martin stepped out of the elevator with Katherine. "You made it difficult to reach you."
Cassandra lowered her gaze. "I know."
Katherine removed her hat, still holding her glasses in one hand. "Thank you for seeing us, Cassandra."
