Seasoned With Love
Season 4 – Episode 8: "Say It Out Loud"
Amara's POV
The inspection results came back at 8:12 a.m.
Marcus was the one who opened the email.
Of course he was.
He stood in the middle of the restaurant staring at his phone like it might explode.
Rose looked up from the register.
"Well?"
Marcus blinked.
Then looked up slowly.
"We passed."
Silence.
Then
Carl let out a breath.
"Of course we did."
Rose smiled.
"I knew it."
Marcus suddenly jumped.
"PERFECT SCORE."
The whole restaurant exhaled at once.
Just like that, one weight lifted.
But only one.
Because across the street…
Construction had already started.
Fast.
Too fast.
By noon, steel framing was going up.
By afternoon, signage appeared:
"HALE SIGNATURE — OPENING SOON."
Marcus stood at the window with a cup of coffee.
"I don't like that name."
Carl stood beside him.
"They're serious."
Rose joined them.
"Very."
I walked up holding the baby.
"What are we looking at?"
Marcus pointed.
"Your competition."
I stared across the street.
Clean lines.
Corporate design.
No warmth.
Just efficiency.
Luke came up behind us.
He didn't say anything at first.
He just looked.
Watching.
Measuring.
Thinking.
Marcus glanced at him.
"So… what's the plan, boss?"
Luke didn't answer right away.
Rose turned slightly toward him.
"We can't ignore this."
Carl nodded.
"They'll pull customers."
Marcus added,
"With fancy lighting and expensive menus."
Luke finally spoke.
"Let them."
Everyone looked at him.
Marcus blinked.
"…that's the plan?"
Luke turned toward us.
"We don't compete with them."
Rose frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Luke gestured around the restaurant.
"We stay who we are."
Marcus whispered,
"That sounds noble and risky."
Carl asked,
"What if that's not enough?"
Luke met his eyes.
"Then we get better."
Rose studied him.
"You're not worried?"
Luke glanced at me.
Then at the baby.
Then back at the restaurant.
"I'm focused."
Marcus nodded slowly.
"That's… different."
But before the conversation could go further
The door opened.
Again.
Marcus sighed.
"If it's another inspector"
It wasn't.
It was a reporter.
Camera crew behind her.
Rose straightened immediately.
"Of course it is."
The reporter stepped forward confidently.
"Luke Bennett?"
Luke nodded.
"Yes."
"I'm with City Line News. We're covering the new restaurant opening across the street."
Marcus whispered,
"Here we go."
The reporter continued.
"Given the competition, people are asking what makes your restaurant different?"
Luke didn't hesitate.
"The people."
The reporter smiled slightly.
"Some say your success is tied more to your personal story than the business itself."
Marcus frowned.
"I don't like that question."
Rose stayed quiet.
Watching.
The reporter asked the real question next.
"And what about your personal life?"
My stomach tightened.
Here it comes.
"There's been speculation," she continued, "about your relationship with Amara and the child you've been seen with."
The restaurant went still.
Every fork.
Every conversation.
Paused.
Marcus whispered,
"…oh."
Luke didn't look at the camera right away.
He looked at me.
Then at the baby.
Then back at the reporter.
Rose watched him carefully.
This was the moment.
The one they had been avoiding.
Private life.
Public question.
Luke took a breath.
Then stepped closer to the camera.
"Amara and I…"
He paused.
Not uncertain.
Just choosing his words.
"…are building a life together."
My heart skipped.
The room stayed silent.
The reporter leaned in slightly.
"And the child?"
Luke didn't hesitate this time.
"He's part of that life."
Marcus whispered,
"That's a yes."
Carl nodded slowly.
"Clear enough."
The reporter pressed gently.
"So you're confirming your relationship publicly?"
Luke's voice stayed calm.
"Yes."
I felt something shift.
Not dramatic.
Not loud.
But real.
Intentional.
Public.
The reporter smiled.
"Thank you."
The crew packed up quickly.
And just like that
It was out.
Marcus turned to me slowly.
"Well."
Rose smiled softly.
"About time."
Carl nodded.
"Clean and simple."
Luke turned back toward me.
For a second…
Everything else faded.
The noise.
The pressure.
The competition across the street.
He walked over.
"Was that okay?"
I looked at him.
Really looked at him.
"You didn't hesitate."
Luke shook his head.
"I'm done pretending."
Marcus clapped once.
"YES. Honesty era!"
Rose laughed.
"Marcus…"
I smiled at Luke.
"It was more than okay."
The baby made a small sound.
Almost like agreement.
Marcus pointed.
"He approves."
Carl chuckled.
"Good. That's what matters."
Outside, construction continued.
Loud.
Relentless.
Across the street, a new challenge was rising.
But inside…
Something stronger had just been built.
Not a business move.
Not a strategy.
A decision.
Luke stood beside me.
Not just as a partner in the restaurant.
But as something more.
Something real.
And for the first time since all of this started…
We weren't just holding things together quietly.
We were standing in it.
Openly.
Together.
