I decided to try Jenny. She'd been in the press longer than anyone else in the office, and if anyone knew something, it was her.
"I'm just asking out of curiosity," I said, keeping my voice light.
She gave me a flat look. "If that's all it is, then I'd advise you to drop it." Her tone left no room for debate. "The Norton family's affairs are not something we involve ourselves in." She turned back to her work, done with the conversation.
But her reluctance only made me more certain she knew something.
The office had emptied out for lunch. It was just the two of us, and I pulled a chair close to her desk. "Jenny." I kept my voice low. "I can't explain why, but I really need to know what happened."
