Chapter 63 - Chapter 63: Looks Like I’ll Have to Sell My Body After All

Ding—Congratulations, host! You have completed a milestone task!

The character sheet for "Kiana Kaslana," along with the data for her four launch-version battlesuits, has now been fully recorded. Please keep up the good work and proceed to the next phase: motion capture! Build the combat system for Honkai Impact 3rd!

Objective: Bind one high-precision motion-capture device as a dedicated system device. The system will automatically reconstruct it according to the blueprint. The higher the precision, the faster the task progress.

Su Yu's hand froze in midair.

"Motion capture?"

Exactly! As an action game, a smooth and flashy combat system is the core of its appeal. And of course, a Valkyrie's battle movements should be performed by the real person herself if you want that authentic feel~

"Do you even know how much professional mocap equipment costs?"

Su Yu rubbed his temples. He had known from the start that action games and motion capture went hand in hand, but this system had opened with a cheerful little line about how the higher the precision, the better.

"A full optical motion-capture system starts at at least five hundred thousand yuan. Even a consumer-grade inertial setup costs tens of thousands."

"Are you trying to bankrupt me?"

Now, now, host, that is hardly fair~ The system would like to remind you that fully producing the combat animations for Kiana's four battlesuits will yield extremely generous rewards! Including but not limited to: game engine upgrades, expanded asset libraries, and—

A bold red line of text popped up on the panel.

—another expansion of Kiana's movement range!

Su Yu paused.

That was, admittedly, a tempting offer.

Right now, Kiana was still restricted to a radius of only one and a half meters around him, which made daily life a constant headache.

If that range could be expanded…

Well. Ahem. In any case—

Consumer-grade mocap gear wouldn't cut it.

He had already gotten a decent sense of Kiana's fighting style. Those gun-fu maneuvers that practically defied physics, the midair chains of bullets and blades, those long-duration aerial states…

Ordinary equipment simply couldn't capture that level of precision.

Su Yu's mind spun rapidly.

One name surfaced.

Vill-V.

A resident of the Golden Courtyard, with a spiral workshop in the basement. A famous eccentric genius.

Su Yu had run into her a few times before.

That girl spent all day holed up underground tinkering with bizarre inventions—supposedly a steam-powered mechanical arm that brewed coffee automatically, a holographic projector that could simulate the night sky, and some so-called perpetual motion machine that was allegedly "just one final step away from true time-stop technology."

Granted, most of her inventions ended in explosions.

But to be fair, she genuinely had the skills in mechanics and optics.

If it were her… maybe she really could come up with some kind of unique motion-capture rig?

So he got straight to it.

Su Yu pulled out his phone and found Vill-V on Green Bubble. At first he wanted to open with a simple You there?

But then he remembered that starting with You there? was the universal way to turn yourself into a clown.

So he went with something else.

Su Yu: Esteemed, great, and all-powerful Madam Magician Vill-V, may I ask if you have a moment?

Vill-V: Well, well, look who it is! If it isn't Mr. Su Yu, devoted admirer of the great magician Vill-V!

An instant reply.

Apparently the one on duty today really was Great Magician Vill-V.

Vill-V had many different personalities, and the one Su Yu was most familiar with was Great Magician Vill-V. Granted, that particular Vill-V had a distinctly "Path of Elation" vibe—her talent for stirring up trouble was second only to a certain little black-haired menace.

Still, Su Yu more or less understood how to deal with her.

Everyone liked hearing nice things.

And Great Magician Vill-V liked them especially much.

Vill-V: So? Has our busy Mr. Su Yu finally remembered the greatest magician of this century, Vill-V? I heard from Elysia that you've run into something very interesting lately~

That pink menace!!

Su Yu could already picture Elysia standing in the Golden Courtyard with her Megaphone of the Previous Era, Volume Supreme, loudly broadcasting to the entire building that he was "in love" and "living with an adorable girl."

Still, since this was just texting, Su Yu felt his dignity could probably survive the ordeal.

So he gritted his teeth and explained his need for a high-precision mocap system to the trouble-loving Vill-V.

Vill-V: Ah, high-precision motion-capture equipment~ Come to think of it, I believe the Great Inventor does indeed have a set.

Vill-V: But, Mr. Su Yu, what exactly do you intend to offer in exchange? Great Magician Vill-V's performances are not free for public viewing, and neither are love and miracles, you know?

Vill-V: Equivalent exchange—surely you understand that principle, yes? Or were you planning to corrupt my will with money?

A grimly resolute look appeared on Su Yu's face—the kind worn by a man marching unflinchingly into the abyss.

Su Yu: I volunteer to serve as Vill-V's magic-show assistant.

Vill-V's magic shows.

Golden Courtyard urban legend number eight. As for the first seven and the remaining one… no idea, Elysia had apparently made them up on the spot.

Su Yu had heard the rumors.

Supposedly the previous assistant had actually been sawn clean in half during the "human dismemberment" act. Sure, he'd been successfully put back together afterward, but ever since then, he reportedly fainted at the sight of a chainsaw.

And the assistant before that had nearly been roasted alive during the "flaming escape" trick. By the time the firefighters arrived, half the stage had already burned down.

And the assistant before that…

Well. That one supposedly no longer existed in this dimension.

As absurd as all that sounded—and, honestly, looked—Vill-V was usually still reliable.

At worst, her assistants suffered a little emotional damage.

Still, courage was definitely required.

Vill-V: !!!!

Vill-V: Oh, my dear Mr. Su Yu, you truly are one of the very few people in this world capable of understanding the genius that is Vill-V!

Vill-V: There is a saying in Yan: "A gentleman will die for one who knows him, and a woman will adorn herself for one who delights in her." At this moment, I believe we are none other than Bo Ya and Zhong Ziqi beneath the flowing streams of high mountains…

Vill-V: Heh heh heh! Give me half a month—no, a week! I shall produce a device that leaves you utterly speechless!!**

Vill-V's profile dimmed, and she said nothing more about the actual magic performance arrangements.

But Su Yu knew perfectly well that he was not escaping that fate.

"Ugh…"

He let out a long sigh.

"What's wrong?"

Kiana, who had been browsing a barrage-filled little video site and had even stumbled onto clipped highlights from Su Yu's streams, looked up curiously.

"Nothing."

Su Yu turned to look at her.

"I was just thinking that the price I'm paying is truly enormous. For your sake, I'm going to have to sell my body."

A question mark practically appeared over Kiana's head.

"What kind of weird nonsense are you spouting now?"

After spending this much time with him, she had more or less figured out Su Yu's habits.

Whenever he put on that expression and started saying shameless nonsense, it meant he was bored out of his mind and wanted to tease her.

It was kind of like when she saw Worm—lazy little thing—flopped out on the floor fast asleep, and couldn't resist going over to knead its soft little belly a couple of times.

Of course.

Of course it wasn't the same as with a cat.

There was absolutely no way she was letting Su Yu touch her stomach.

At least…

Not yet.
