Eren waited until the dinner crowd thinned out before he walked over to Selena's place, because what he wanted wasn't on the menu.
The big room up front still smelled like yaksha stew and woodfire, a few elves lingering over the last of the wine. Selena was behind the counter wiping it down. She clocked him the second he came through the door.
She didn't say anything. She raised one eyebrow, set down her cloth and tipped her head toward the curtain at the back.
She always knows. I don't know how she always knows.
The back room was smaller and warmer. One low table, cushions on the floor, a shelf of bottles she didn't pour for just anybody. This was where the real talking happened on the whole farm. Half of what Eren knew about anyone, he'd picked up in this room without ever meaning to.
Selena lowered herself onto the cushions across from him slow and easy, pulled the cork out of a dark bottle with her teeth and poured two glasses without asking if he wanted one.
