"What do these tracks tell you, boy?" Jameson asked, hovering over the trail that led out of the river and into the brush.
Kaelin crouched down, his eyes slowly following the tracks as he brushed away the mosquitoes trying to get at his face. He kept his fingers close to the mud without actually touching it.
The other ranger, Malik, let out a long hiss of air through his teeth. "This is a waste of time."
"I'd say a child. However, judging by the line over there, that looks a bit like a tail mark. So, I'd say Telani. Maybe a not-quite-adult or very slight of frame." Kaelin poked at the depression in the sand. "They appear to be walking with a limp, and if I don't miss my mark…" Kaelin poked another print that had a small stone embedded in the center of it, and a few stumble marks around it. "They're either disoriented or not used to being barefoot."
"Good. How long ago?" Jameson asked.
