Mr Vale's lips pursed tightly, then a light flashed across his eyes.
"It means," he muttered, his voice turning cold, "that you have spent his entire life excusing his complications. His moods. His independence." He shrugged casually. "And now he's a grown man who can't fulfill obligations."
He stopped, taking in a cool breath as if to ease his frustration. "You enabled all this since he was a child. All of his abnormalities. You accommodated them, and this is the result."
A small laugh escaped Mrs. Vale's lips. "You're saying it as if I'm the only one in this." She shook her head slightly. "He is your son too."
"Your son," Mr. Vale corrected, his voice sharp.
