Edgar's whole body trembled. Then he said, "No! No! No! No one understands how to manage Vought better than I do. I'm irreplaceable."
Alex lightly patted his shoulder, "No one is irreplaceable, except me."
"As for Vought, if it can't keep operating, there's only one possible reason. That would be that I left Vought."
"In other words, as long as I'm at Vought, even a pig could keep the company making money. Don't you think?"
Edgar's body shook.
What Homelander said was not impossible.
This man would soon become a Defense Department official and hold an Army rank.
Anyone who wasn't blind could see that Army colonel would never be the end, only the starting point.
In the future, Homelander could become a general, even a five-star general.
With that much power, he would not have to do anything at all. As long as his name was attached to Vought.
Vought could not possibly lose money, and elites from all fields would line up to enter the company and assist Homelander.
Alex smiled, "Now do you understand?"
"I didn't kill you before because you were familiar with the company's operations, so I kept you around to make money for me."
"But now…"
Edgar's whole body trembled. Then he shouted, "No, you can't kill me!"
"If you kill me, you'll never see your son again!"
Alex froze for a moment.
Then he remembered that in the original story, Homelander really did have a son. He had that child with the bearded man's wife, and that boy seemed to be a natural-born superhuman.
Even in his mother's womb, he had already shown extraordinary strength.
Seeing Alex pause, Edgar thought Homelander was stunned to suddenly learn he had a child.
'There's a chance!'
Joy rose in the dark-skinned president's heart. He quickly said, "Do you remember Becca?"
"She was an employee in our Seven Tower eight years ago. The one who took the initiative to seduce you and had a relationship with you."
Alex came back to himself and said with a smile, "Oh? Didn't she disappear, maybe even die?"
Edgar, regaining the upper hand, showed a smile, "No. She didn't die."
"I hid her away. Her existence would have been a scandal for our company."
Alex smiled faintly, "Since when do we solve scandals by hiding the main person involved instead of killing her?"
"Is it because of the child in her belly?"
"Because that child has my genes and is a natural-born superhuman?"
"You planned to raise him to fight against me?"
"Am I right?"
Edgar stood there dumbfounded. Inside, he thought, 'This monster, he guessed everything!'
But on the surface he said, "I just thought it would be better for Becca and your child to live somewhere no one knows them."
"I'm the only one who knows that place."
"If you kill me, you'll never be able to see your child."
"So let me go. What do you say?"
Alex smiled and cupped the old man's face, "That place. You're really the only one who knows it?"
Edgar felt more and more certain he had won, "Of course. I move them every year, so only I know about it."
'Hmm! That is a bit different from the original.'
'But it doesn't matter.'
Alex's eyes gradually lit up with golden light, "If that's the case, that's even better."
"Let that mother and son live peacefully, never disturbed."
"As for you…"
"Mr. Edgar, farewell."
[T/N: Fack yeah!]
Two golden beams shot out, piercing into Edgar's eyes. The high-temperature rays instantly melted his eyeballs, leaving two black holes in his head.
When Alex let go, Edgar's corpse fell to the ground.
Behind him, David stumbled back several steps, his teeth chattering. He saw Homelander turn around and ask kindly, "Mr. David, do you know why Edgar died?"
The fat on David's face trembled wildly. Knowing this concerned his life, he hurriedly said, "I know, sir."
"Because he wanted to hurt you."
Alex crouched down and patted the chubby man's face, "You're absolutely right, dear Mr. David."
"I didn't expect you to be such a genius, inventing something as impressive as the superpower suppressant. You almost cost me my life."
David quickly said, "It had nothing to do with me, sir."
"Edgar made me do it. I…"
"I know."
"I know it wasn't your idea," Alex nodded in agreement, then smiled, "I just want to ask you, Mr. David, would you hurt me?"
David shook his head quickly, "I would never do that, Homelander."
"I admire you from the bottom of my heart!"
"Is that so?", Alex patted his shoulder, "Then tell me, who else knows the formula for the suppressant?"
David answered, "Only me, sir."
"It's confidential. Edgar didn't allow many people to know. So from development to production, I completed everything by myself."
Alex said, "How many finished suppressants are left?"
"And where are the data stored?"
.
.
.
A moment later, inside a warehouse—
David pointed at a pile of items in front of him, "It's all here, sir."
"The remaining two finished doses of suppressant, all the equipment used to make it, and the computer storing the data."
"Everything is here."
Alex glanced at the fat man, "You're sure?"
David nodded like a pecking chicken, "I'm sure, sir."
"Very good."
Golden beams shot from Alex's eyes, sweeping across the pile. As they sliced everything apart, they also set it on fire.
Flames roared. The air in the warehouse grew scorching hot. Sweat gradually appeared on David's forehead.
He wiped his brow and said, "Sir, may I continue to serve you?"
Alex turned around with a smile, "Of course you can, Mr. David."
"Would you mind dying for me?"
David froze. Before he could react, his vision filled with golden light.
Then he lost consciousness.
The heat vision cut through his head, splitting his genius brain in two. Watching the fat man's corpse fall, Alex placed his hands on his hips and let out a breath.
"An accomplice has to pay a price too, Mr. David."
"I hope that after you reach heaven, you'll understand that."
Alex looked at the corpse and the burning flames, "The suppressant is gone. Edgar and his helper are dead."
"Next…"
Alex shook his head and laughed, "Invisible Man, I hope you're hiding well enough. You'd better pray I never find you."
"And Stormfront…"
"An eighty-year-old grandma shouldn't come out and make a fool of herself."
With that, Alex shot up into the air, smashing through the warehouse roof, and disappeared into the sky.
