Alex let out two dry laughs, then almost at the same time as Clark, both of them shot beams from their eyes, golden and red.
On the ground, General Achir raised his head and saw the golden and red beams in the sky quickly meet and collide midway between them.
A dull explosion sounded immediately. Then one invisible shockwave after another spread outward like waves and tides, continuously extending all the way to the ground.
The earth immediately began to tremble. The highway cracked open with one fissure after another under the vibration, while the desert was shaken until thick dust rolled into the air.
After this probing beam collision produced no result, Alex and Clark both stopped firing their beams. The two of them leaned forward slightly and burst into a charge at the same time.
A roar like fighter jets breaking the sound barrier echoed in the sky. In almost an instant, the black and blue figures collided.
Two fists slammed into each other, sending out rippling waves that wiped several low-hanging white clouds out of the sky like drawings erased by an eraser.
At this moment, Clark's fist bounced back, and surprise clearly flashed in Superman's eyes.
He could clearly feel that after the force coming from Alex's fist began to weaken, suddenly another surge of power burst out, knocking his fist away.
A second impact!
Seizing the moment when Clark was shocked by the second impact, Alex flashed forward and slammed a vicious knee into Superman's nose.
Clark's head snapped backward from the blow, but he was completely unharmed. He immediately lunged back and punched Alex in the face.
Alex's head tilted slightly. Then he turned to look at Clark's fist and revealed a smile.
Clark frowned. Suddenly, like someone sliding across ice, he rushed toward Alex at high speed and threw another punch.
Alex dodged sideways, but reached out and grabbed Superman's red cape. Smiling, he suddenly spun his body.
Clark spun several circles as Alex whirled him around. When Alex finally threw him, Superman shot away like a cannonball.
In the blink of an eye, the blue figure flew far into the distance before finally stopping.
Clark snorted lightly through his nose and flew back at extremely high speed.
Just as Alex came into view again, he saw the other man point toward the army on the ground.
Then he turned and fired a "heat vision" beam straight down at the troops on the highway.
Clark immediately changed direction and dove diagonally downward. Before the heat vision could reach the ground, he used his own body to block the attack.
Alex withdrew his heat vision in a single instant. Before Superman could react, he flashed forward and delivered a flying kick that sent Clark crashing toward the distant desert like a meteor.
BANG!
Clark struck the desert, blasting up a waterfall of sand.
Before that sand waterfall even had time to fall back down, Clark burst out of the sand, looked toward Alex, and fired a red beam.
Alex tilted his body to dodge, but Clark did not stop firing. He tilted his head slightly, and the red beam swept toward Alex like a scythe.
Alex leaned backward, letting the red beam pass over his head. At the same time he flew toward the ground and dove into the formation of military vehicles.
Clark's beam immediately disappeared in midair. Unable to attack toward the army, Superman had no choice but to turn and rush down after him.
Just as Clark was about to enter the convoy as well, from deep within the vehicle formation two golden beams suddenly shot through the air.
Clark immediately dodged to the left. He originally thought Alex would do the same thing he had done and sweep the beam sideways.
Unexpectedly, the golden beam did not sweep sideways. Instead it turned a corner, like a laser-guided missile, and curved around from behind to shoot toward him.
Clark was shocked again.
'His laser can turn?'
Superman had never encountered something like this before, and he himself could not make such an attack.
What he didn't know was that Alex had already marked him. Under the effect of "Absolute Hit," as long as Clark remained within Alex's field of vision, he would not be able to escape the attack of the heat vision.
Clark performed various evasive maneuvers in midair, but still could not shake off that beam that clung to him like a bone parasite.
In the end, he had no choice but to turn around and fire red beams from his eyes, trying to cancel it out.
Unexpectedly, the moment the two beams collided this time, the golden beam suddenly expanded and then exploded.
BOOM!
A huge explosion sounded in midair.
General Achir's hat was blown away by the scorching gale, but the general forgot to grab his hat.
He stood there dumbfounded, staring at the enormous fireball in the sky.
The orange-red fireball, like the explosion of a fuel-air bomb, rapidly expanded until it turned into a blazing sea of fire that nearly covered the entire sky.
On the ground, Alex searched for Superman's figure. Of course he knew the "big explosion" wouldn't kill Clark.
Suddenly his ears twitched slightly.
Alex abruptly looked downward. He saw two red beams suddenly shoot upward from beneath his feet, and then a dark figure burst through the ground and slammed into him, pushing him up into the sky.
Clark!
At some point he had burrowed into the desert and launched an attack from underground, successfully pulling Alex, this dangerous person, away from the convoy.
While rapidly ascending, Alex placed a hand on Clark's shoulder and pushed hard, separating the two of them.
Then both of them floated in midair, observing each other.
Looking at Superman, who didn't have a single injury on him, Alex smiled.
"Feels like I'm playing cards against myself."
Clark felt the same way.
Up until now, none of his attacks had been able to do anything to the mysterious man in front of him.
He believed that compared to himself during the Metropolis battle last year, he had grown a lot stronger.
But this mysterious man before him was not only no weaker than him in every ability, he even possessed some abilities that Clark himself did not have.
"Looks like it'll be hard to decide a winner in a short time."
Clark pressed his lips tightly together. His will was firm, and he would not waver because of something like this.
But just as he was about to charge toward Alex again, Clark suddenly turned his head to look into the distance.
Then his expression changed.
Without saying a single word, he left at supersonic speed.
Alex spread his hands, not knowing why Superman suddenly ran off.
Then he looked toward the army on the ground again and revealed a warm smile like spring.

[Metropolis]
Inside a subway station—
"What are you trying to do?"
"Let me go!"
Lois shouted and struggled fiercely, trying to break free from the two burly men in front of her.
"Calm down, miss. That's good for both you and me."
A man dressed like a janitor stepped forward, holding a handkerchief sprayed with anesthetic.
Just as he was about to press the handkerchief over Lois's nose, there was suddenly a loud boom behind them, followed by rushing air currents.
The men quickly turned to look. They saw that the ceiling above the subway station had been broken open, and sunlight shone through the hole.
It shone onto a red cape.
Then the man beneath the cape raised his head, and his eyes lit up with red light.
"I'll say it only once. Let her go!"
