The helicopter landed on the dock. Lois stepped out of the helicopter and signaled to the pilot, telling him to leave first.
After all, Gotham was very dangerous right now.
Lois then jogged toward the place where the fight had happened.
She had only taken two steps when the building where the battle had taken place suddenly collapsed.
That unlucky building had first been smashed straight through when Alex used Batman as a weapon, then swept with "heat vision." The structure had already been severely damaged. It was perfectly normal that it could no longer hold up and collapsed.
———
At this moment, on the rooftop—
Alex floated slightly off the ground with his feet, watching the building crumble below. Only after the whole structure had completely turned into a pile of ruins did he fly down to the ground.
At that moment, Clark flew back from the distance. He had already made a preliminary recovery inside the kryptonite gas and could fly again, but his speed was limited.
"Now isn't the time to fight."
"Martha's been captured!"
"I have to save her!"
Of course Alex knew who Martha was. He shrugged.
"What does that have to do with me?"
He knew Lex had given Superman one hour. In the movie, Batman would soon go rescue Clark's adoptive mother.
That was why he said it.
But this made Clark furious. Superman's eyes immediately turned red.
"No one can stop me from saving Martha. Not even you!"
He fired a blinding red beam. Like a scarlet bolt of lightning, it tore through space and blasted toward Alex.
Alex couldn't be bothered to explain and answered directly with his own "heat vision."
In an instant, the red and golden streams of light collided again, and in the very next second a violent explosion erupted!
Fierce flames surged outward like waves, sweeping in every direction. Clark was still affected by the kryptonite gas and hadn't fully recovered his strength. He was immediately overwhelmed and thrown away by the shockwave from the explosion.
After the violent explosion, inside the ruins of the building beside Alex, several chunks of broken stone suddenly shot out. Then Batman, his armored suit spewing electric sparks, charged straight at Alex.
In the distance, Clark shook his head and climbed to his feet. He watched as the man holding the spear easily dodged Bruce's attack. With a casual palm strike, he sent out a ripple that slammed Bruce down onto the ground.
Bruce rolled several times in succession, pulling back to create distance, then took out a grenade and threw it at his opponent.
But that man instantly flew into the air, and the grenade exploded violently.
After that, the man in black landed. He lifted his leg and kicked, sending the heavily armored Batman flying.
Bruce slammed into a pile of rubble from the collapsed building. He spat out a mouthful of blood but paid it no attention.
Batman then pulled a pistol from behind his waist.
At that moment he saw Superman rushing in. Clark threw a punch, blasting out a circular ripple that knocked the raindrops away.
But the man threw a punch as well, shattering the rain and meeting Clark's fist head-on.
Their fists collided, and Clark was sent flying.
From the point where the man's fist struck, the ground erupted with a wave of stone. The road shattered and lifted into the air, carried by the shockwave and blasted thousands of meters away.
Bruce snorted, raised his pistol, and pulled the trigger.
Flames burst from the muzzle, instantly accelerating a bullet and firing it toward the man in black.
Alex smiled and tilted his head slightly, letting the bullet whip up a spray of rain as it flew past his face.
He then raised his spear and walked toward Batman.
But just then, he heard a soft cry behind him.
Clark heard that cry too.
Alex's punch had blasted him a thousand meters away, embedding his whole body into a pile of rubble. Suddenly his ears caught a sound.
He burst out of the rubble, slicing across more than a thousand meters of space in an instant, and caught a falling figure with both hands.
'Lois?'
The female reporter from the Daily Planet had just arrived nearby. She had been looking for a chance to call out to Batman, to let him know Clark had only acted because he had no other choice.
Unexpectedly, her chest suddenly ached. When she collapsed, Clark had already caught her.
"Lois, why are you here?"
Clark's face turned pale with shock. Seeing a patch of blood slowly spreading across her chest, he immediately scanned her condition.
It would have been better if he hadn't looked. The moment he did, his expression changed.
Inside Lois's heart, there was a bullet.
"No!"
"No!"
Clark picked up his girlfriend.
"Hang on. I'll take you to the hospital right now."
"Clark…"
"Don't… be sad…"
After struggling to force out those few words, the focus gradually faded from Lois's eyes. The hand she tried to lift toward Clark's face suddenly fell.
But a large hand caught it.
Clark stared blankly at Lois's face as her eyes closed, then pressed that hand, slowly losing its warmth, against his own cheek.
Suddenly he threw his head back. From his eyes shot dazzling crimson lasers.
"No!"
With a furious roar, the rain curtain was blasted apart, and the shout carried far into the distance.
———
Meanwhile—
At the Kryptonian ship, lightning flashed wildly, as if a demon were about to be born.
Alex, who had been walking toward Batman, and Bruce, who was leaning against the rubble pile, both looked stunned.
Especially Bruce. He had never imagined that he would accidentally kill a civilian.
Watching Clark firing lasers into the sky, Alex tightened his grip on the spear.
"This time it's gotten out of hand."
Right then, his vision blurred. By the time he reacted, he had already been sent flying. Only then did he see rings of ripples spreading out.
Then he saw Clark, who had rammed into him, now like a madman grabbing Batman by the shoulders and pinning him into the stone pile while roaring, "Why? Why did you do this!"
"She had nothing to do with this!"
"Why did you kill her!"
"I knew it!"
"I knew I should've killed you earlier!"
"Bat, tonight you die!"
———
Inside the Kryptonian ship—
Electric arcs shot everywhere. A cocoon rose from the liquid, constantly writhing as if something inside it was about to be born.
Lex took two steps back and spread his arms.
"Come out, my child."
"Make that god, that guy flying around in a cape, disappear forever."
Crack!
The cocoon suddenly split open. A black-gray, deformed hand stretched out from inside, and after only a moment it tore the cocoon apart.
Then a tall figure crawled out from within.
It was a humanoid monster, ugly yet powerful, radiating a terrifying presence.
It let out a roar toward Lex.
Lex couldn't help closing his eyes, feeling a foul breath blow straight at him.
Then he heard the howl of something tearing through the air, along with the sound of metal being smashed apart.
When he lifted his head again, the monster had already disappeared. Above the ship's chamber there was now a huge hole.
Through that hole he saw lightning flashing and thunder roaring, and he felt the cold rain falling across his face.
Lex closed his eyes and hummed a tune like a madman. Spinning in circles, he began to dance in the liquid-filled chamber of the ship.
"Go."
"My child."
"Go kill that caped guy, and then welcome the arrival of that great being."
"He's about to come."
"He's about to come!"
