Chapter 221 - Chapter 209: Evil Never Sleeps

Watching Hippolyta and her group leave, Alex's expression did not change at all. Of course he knew why the Amazon Queen had suddenly departed.

Perhaps because he had once come into contact with a Mother Box and gained power from it.

Alex had a vague connection to the Mother Box stored on Paradise Island, one that even he could not clearly explain.

Just moments ago, he had sensed movement from the Mother Box.

That meant the timeline had reached the point where Steppenwolf was about to arrive.

It also meant the story of the Justice League had officially begun.

"Strange. Where is the Queen taking the Royal Guard?"

A rough female voice came from behind him. Alex did not need to turn around to know it was Hera.

Naturally, Hera did not know where Hippolyta was taking the Royal Guard. She only looked at the soldiers wearing red cloaks and armor, different from ordinary Amazon warriors, and quietly clenched her fists.

"One day, I will become one of the Queen's Royal Guards too," Hera said.

Alex laughed, "That may not be a good thing."

Hera glared at him, "That is an honor."

Alex snorted, "You still look unconvinced. If I had the time, I'd teach you another lesson right now."

The lesson he meant was obviously what they had done last night.

Hera snorted and stared at him stubbornly.

Alex smiled. These Amazons had good stamina. Ordinary people could never keep up with him for so long.

In terms of physical endurance alone, Amazon warriors were probably similar to superhumans like Maeve.

But when it came to durability, the gap was huge.

Amazon warriors were generally only a little stronger than ordinary humans. Their bodies were nowhere near tough enough to stop bullets.

Maeve and Starlight, on the other hand, could withstand rifle bullets and even sniper rounds fired at close range.

But Amazons could not even endure rifle bullets from World War II. Antiope, who taught Diana combat skills, had been shot to death.

Compared to the Amazons, another race, the Atlanteans who lived beneath the sea, were clearly much stronger.

At least Aquaman had shown that blades and bullets could not harm him.

Thinking about it, that made sense. To live underwater, the body density of Atlanteans must have evolved to an astonishing level.

Especially those mutated Atlanteans living in the Trench. Their body density was probably even more frightening.

Unfortunately, he did not know where those Atlanteans lived in the deep sea. Otherwise, he would definitely go take a look.

Alex sighed inwardly, "I'm going to head off for a bit."

Alex spoke, then winked at Hera.

"Coming again tonight?"

He had expected Hera to curse at him or refuse.

Instead, she thought about it and said, "We'll see."

Usually, when a woman said "we'll see," it meant there was a chance.

Alex smiled. He thought this woman had already gotten a taste of it. Then again, that was normal. She had been lonely for thousands of years.

Once that emptiness had been filled, it was hard to go back to how things were before.

Seeing Alex about to leave, the red-haired Helena ran over.

"Conqueror, where are you going?"

"Just looking around."

Alex lifted off the ground and asked, "Want to come with me?"

Helena glanced at Hera and lightly bit her lip.

"Okay."

Hera's expression changed slightly. Then she snorted and turned away.

Alex pretended not to notice the looks exchanged between the two women. He wrapped an arm around Helena's waist, surrounded her with his bio-force field, and flew into the sky.

It was Helena's first time flying through the air like a bird. She let out a cry and held onto Alex.

After thinking for a moment, she spoke softly, "Did you torture Hera last night?"

Alex paused, "Why would you say that?"

Helena replied quietly, "I heard her. She was very loud."

"She sounded like she was suffering, but also happy."

Alex laughed.

'So you were listening outside?'

'Looks like you care a lot about Hera too.'

Alex chuckled.

"I didn't torture Hera. On the contrary, I gave her happiness."

"She'll probably come to my room again tonight. If you don't believe me, come along too."

Helena hesitated for a moment before nodding, "Okay."

By then, Alex had already spotted the white stone fortress built by the Amazons near the sea.

From a distance, he saw the Amazon Queen and her Royal Guard arrive nearby. Then Hippolyta led several people into the fortress.

Helena immediately became nervous.

"Why is the Queen going to the sacred temple?"

Alex glanced at her without speaking.

Helena explained, "The temple houses a sacred relic that the Amazons have guarded since ancient times."

"There are people stationed here every day. All warriors must take turns protecting it and making sure the relic remains within our sight at all times."

Alex nodded.

The so-called sacred relic was the Mother Box.

Based on the movie's story, only the Amazons and Atlanteans treated the Mother Boxes seriously.

Both groups built containers for them, stored them in their own strongholds, and assigned guards to watch them day and night.

As for humans, the way humans protected a Mother Box was by digging a shallow hole and burying it. It was handled very casually.

At this moment, Hippolyta entered the white stone fortress and saw the Mother Box resting on the stone platform.

The Mother Box was sealed inside a container specially made by the Amazons. A crack had now appeared in the container, and light was shining out from inside.

"What is happening?"

Hippolyta's expression was serious as her hand rested on her sword hilt.

One of the female warriors guarding the Mother Box said, "Your Majesty, the sacred relic showed unusual activity just now, but nothing else has happened so far."

"We cannot be careless."

"They have existed since ancient times. They are living machines with special powers."

Hippolyta examined the Mother Box on the platform.

"Could it really be as that man said? Is the enemy from ancient times about to return?"

At that moment, the light inside the container suddenly disappeared.

It became quiet.

Just as it had been throughout countless days over the past thousands of years.

The Amazons looked at one another.

The female warrior said, "Your Majesty, it seems to have fallen asleep again."

Hippolyta narrowed her eyes slightly, "Evil never sleeps."

She sensed the approach of a storm and shouted, "Daughters of Paradise Island, do not lower your guard!"

At that moment, the Mother Box lit up again.

It shook violently, with greater force and frequency than before.

Immediately, some Amazon warriors raised shields and leveled spears, while others drew bowstrings and aimed arrows at the Mother Box.

At the same time, a humming sound suddenly came from above the temple.

Then a cylindrical object emitting white light descended from above.

It brought a shockwave similar to a sonic boom, instantly sending every Amazon warrior around the temple flying.
