Chapter 26 - The Red Ledger[2]

"Welcome to The Red Ledger, Cassian." Professor Hawthorne said and got up from his chair.

Cassian did the same and then extended his hand towards his Professor and shook with his.

"Come now, I will introduce you to the other members and show you around." Edmund said and walked out of his office. Cassian followed behind him, into the corridor.

"The first room on the right is the resting room with two beds, members who just came back from a mission can rest there, and if they wanna spend the night, they can do that too.

The room to its opposite side is the resting room for the women members. Adjacent to it is the lunch room as the others call it. Everyone sits together and drinks tea there or coffee and plays Tactical War Table.

The one opposite to it is a storeroom with other relics I've brought it as well as the room where our finance manager sits.

You already know the reception is with Evelyn, now let's go down." Professor Hawthorne explained and went down the stairs, he went to where he and him had fought and pressed his palm on the wall.

It shifted and revealed a passage which went downwards into the basement. Professor Hawthorne turned on the light in the stairway and walked down.

At the bottom was a huge iron door, different runes were engraved on it while Cassian also felt barrier spells as well.

"This is the vault of our team. It has the most dangerous relics and also other important ingredients we would need."

He explained and once again put his palm on the door and poured out his mana, the runes glowed slightly and then moved on the door and took the shape of a constellation which are in the night sky and opened.

A cold air rushed out of it and a weird chill shook Cassian's body. It was as if it was telling him to not enter the room.

But he clenched his fist and walked inside behind Professor Hawthorne. As soon as he stepped inside he felt a force press onto his body but he reinforced his legs with aura and his edit ability and pushed through.

He looked to his right and saw a navy blue metal box the size of his hand emitting the strong pressure.

"All of the relics you see are usable and the members of The Red Ledger use them depending on the mission."

Then Professor Hawthorne opened a drawer and took out a revolver. It was different from the one he had strapped on right now under his coat.

Then the Professor took out a box of bullets and a holster and gave them to Cassian.

"Here's your revolver, holster and bullets. You can practice your shooting at the shooting range of the Police." He told him and moved to a sword.

But Cassian opened the button of his coat and showed the strapped holster and his own revolver as it was no use hiding it.

"I carry a revolver as a sword is a bit too big to carry normally." Cassian replied.

"That's good but still I doubt you shot it more than a few times, your family values the sword over these new weapons." Professor Hawthorne said and pulled out the sword from its sheath.

"This is a relic of the Goddess, the sword that can cut shadows. So if you cut off an abyssal spawn's shadow it becomes passive and easy to kill."

They spent another twenty minutes checking the stuff inside the basement vault and then went up.

Professor Hawthorne took him inside the relic storage above and to meet their finance manager.

She was an old woman, probably around her fifties. She wore a suit like his own but the only difference was that she had a skirt.

"Good morning Sarah, this is our newest member Cassian. Would you enter him into the employee list, give him his salary and his badge while I gather the rest of them."

"Sure Captain, Cassian dear, come and give me your thumbprint on this stamp and then just wait." She told me and got to work.

Cassian did what she asked and after a few minutes he was handed twenty gold coins, six gold coins his salary while the other fourteen was the joining bonus.

He took the badge and put it inside his pocket and walked out of the room into the lunch room where everyone else had gathered.

He saw the same people he had seen when Professor Hawthorne had brought him. The holy knight, the woman with white hair, his Professor and another woman, though much older than Sarah.

"Cassian these three are the three out of the five members you haven't met so far." Professor Hawthorne said and pointed towards the Holy Knight.

"That's Sir Brannoc Hale, the Holy Knight sent by the church." He moved his hand towards the white haired young woman.

"That's Helena, she's a mage and a master of summoning. And finally our oldest member, Sister Mirella Quince, she's the alchemist and was a student of a witch in her youth."

Cassian had followed Edmund's hand as he introduced him to the three.

He noticed that each of them had a very distinct role, because he initially had thought it would be full of only combatants but he was proved wrong.

Not only did they have a finance manager, they also had a detective, an alchemist, a summoning expert and even a Holy Knight.

'What would the last one be? I know Julian is a detective.' He thought and then smiled slightly.

"I'm Cassian Morrigan, the youngest son of Count Morrigan. A first year at the Aurelian Imperial Academy and the newest member of The Red Ledger." He said and bowed slightly.

Cassian had always been of the belief that first impressions were really important and if he wanted to have a good relationship with these people he needed to show goodwill.

"Edmund, where did you pick this boy from? I like his guts and that he is polite unlike that blabbering fool on the mission." Sister Mirella said with a slight chuckle.

Only one thing remained before he could go back to the academy and also visit Little Joe once.
