Chapter 6 - Descent

At the same time…

Hitori, who had just finished fighting the monster, and had already wrapped his wound, began finding his way downstairs.

All he could see were dead bodies of students, blood stains on the ground and walls. Bodies without hands or legs. Some without any, they had all been torn out. The sign was truly unforgivable, which was how Hitori felt.

"What kind of massacre is this? What created such calamity to destroy lives like this."

Hitori doesn't have the slightest clue of what brought about creatures such as these. Their existence was unknown to mankind. One moment everything was peaceful, and in less than an hour, things had turned into a disaster.

Life's been thrown away like it was worthless.

"I wouldn't forgive them. I wouldn't forgive them."

While still walking in the hallway, Hitori had noticed something. He didn't see anyone alive. Although there were dead bodies on the ground with blood everywhere, there was not a single soul alive. No running. No screaming.

The place was deserted.

"What is going on? Where is everyone."

Hitori was very curious as he walked past some classrooms to the staircase. There was no one. It was almost like he was the only one in the school building, even though it had just been less than an hour since Jenna and Phillip left him.

It was still so quiet.

"Have they already evaluated the rest of the students?"

"Strange. Even though they were able to do it, they wouldn't take everyone under less than an hour. More importantly, where are the monsters? I don't see any around."

Quickly, Hitori ran down the staircase past two floors before getting to the ground floor. On his way outside. There he saw it. What he never imagined. What was never supposed to be.

A horde of monsters, just standing, with gaze fixed in a certain direction. The number of the monsters was about seventy percent of the school population. Meaning, almost all the students were turned into monsters. Truly unlucky.

"What are they…"

Hitori wondered what they were all looking at. With the blood and dead bodies of the ground, he tried to make his way to a certain area where he wouldn't be noticed, and be able to see what the monsters were looking at.

Hitori walked to the edge of the school building, with the monsters a couple of meters away from him, he began making his way to the fields. However, just as he was about to cross to the other side. It happened. Strange lights began glowing, as this caught his attention.

"W…What is that?"

This was the same time when Jenna and the others awakened different forms and abilities.

Their new form was unheard of to Hitori.

"What…?"

Hitori was speechless. He couldn't take his eyes off the appearance of his fellow students. Their various appearances and looks, struck a large impact. It was a magnificent sight that could only be seen in comic books.

Were they heroes? gods perhaps? The thought crossed Hitori's mind. But soon something was to happen, something beyond what they had ever witnessed this day.

"It can't be."

Hitori, who at the time was holding his wounded hand, stepped on a rock which made a slight sound. It was not loud to the point it could be heard from a distance. However, luck wasn't on his side as a monster caught a glimpse of him.

"KAAK!"

Hearing this sound, Hitori looked up and saw a monster looking at him. The monster locked eyes with him as if telling him. I see you. However, Hitori was expressionless. The way he looked at the monster was with hatred and rage. But there was no moving.

'This is not good.'

Mumbling to himself, Hitori knew what was about to come before him, and he wasn't at all prepared for it. He needed to make his way to the others, and fast. However, with the gaze of the monster on him, that wasn't going to be easy.

It was as though if he took a step, it would prompt the monster to make its own move. And so at this moment, they both were staring at each other, while they waited for who would make the first move.

..

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

Jenna locked eyes with Phillip, as her lips curled to a smile. They both looked at themselves, then at the others; who were still grasping what was going on with their appearances. Then the silence broke.

"Everyone!"

Phillip exclaimed.

"As you can see, our cries have been heard. The heavens answered our hearts." He looked at the gauntlets with gem-like stones in his head.

"…although I don't know what this is. But what I would say is that we can use this to fight our way out of here."

The Jenna added:

"We can defeat this monster!!"

Hearing this, the expression on the students changed. Those who had awakened, were beginning to feel confident about what they had been blessed with. But, those who didn't get anything, were frightened and also puzzled as to why they didn't receive anything.

"I am in."

"I am with you."

"I will fight too."

The confident voices came to rise, as they stepped forward to where Jenna and Phillip stood. And before they knew it, all those who had obtained some kind of power were at the front line facing the monsters.

The ties had already turned. From grass to grace. They were ready, and even excited to fight what they wouldn't in their entire lives had guessed they would do.

..

As this event was unfolding, Hitori was in a contest of 'who would move first' with a monster. However, at this point Hitori was running out of patience. There was no time to waste.

The monster wasn't too big nor too small, it was about the size of a goblin. Whoever that monster was when it was still human, such a person must have been really small. Probably a first year.

"Tsk!"

All this information didn't matter to Hitori. But at this point, that was all he could think of as he stared and waited for the right moment, and in no time, he was blessed with one.

"Charge!"

The voice of students instantly drew his attention, and in an instant he turned to see what was going on.

Before him, there were amateur students, not up to 18 years of age who had just awakened hidden abilities and were now charging towards a horde of monsters like they knew what they were doing.

However, they were charging at monsters who only had one intent.

To kill.

"W…What are they doing? They are completely outnumbered!"

As Hitori yelled this, a chill ran through his spine as a feeling of him forgetting something coursed through him, then he remembered, the monster.

Hitori quickly turned to the direction of the monster he was staring at earlier, to level with the feeling he just had, however, it was gone.

"Sh!t"

The monster had disappeared.

"Where did it go?"

"Where did it go?"

Hitori began looking around for where it might have gone. Even though the rest of the monsters had already made their way to attack the students, charging towards them, this one couldn't leave his mind. Something just told him that the monster didn't go after the students.

"It is here. I know it."

Moving around with his hand on his injury, Hitori tried looking for the monster. However, it was nowhere to be found. Not in the midst of the horde of running monsters, even though he couldn't be able to actually tell. But the feeling didn't leave it.

Suddenly, a shadow loomed above him, and in a little time to react, he looked up and saw the monster landing on his face with a weapon in its hand.

In that instant, Hitori was able to react and dodge the monster's attack by rolling on the ground.

SLAM!

The impact of the weapon of the monster hitting the ground was so strong that it shattered a rock in its landing spot. A second late and that would have been Hitori's head.

KAAACK

The monster didn't give up, as it leaped to attack Hitori again.

And at the same time, the students and the horde of the monsters were about to clash, when suddenly a massive earthquake occurred.

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

The ground began shaking, hard, as though something had hit the earth creating the cause. This wasn't any ordinary earthquake. Both the students and the horde of monsters all lost their balance and fell to the ground.

Even the monster that was about to strike Hitori, fell to the ground, while it leaped to the air. It wasn't just the ground feeling the quake but the air also.

"Huh?"

Hitori's eyes widened, as he couldn't believe it. The monster lost balance in the air, and fell to the ground, hitting its head, and breaking it in the process, causing its instant death.

After about a minute the earthquake stopped as everything came to calm like nothing had ever happened. The students and Hitori began to rise, gaining their balance, and in the process a voice should.

"W-What is that?!"

"What…?"

Hitori looked up and saw something unreal, a phenomenon that was basically impossible.

However, there it was, right above their noses.

A crack appeared in the sky as the cloud split into two, and a large space appeared. Beyond this space, a world of the unknown resided, the background was dark but that wasn't the main attraction.

Before their eyes, a massive creature stepped out of this space and it carried with it an army of monsters.

SWOOSH!

BOOM!

In an instant, the massive monster descended on the ground, causing a cloud of dust to manifest, and following it, the army of monsters began descending in groups, coming down like an endless rain.

THUD!!

BOOM!!

THUD!!

BOOM!!

THUD!!

THUD!!

THUD!!

BOOM!!

Hitori's eyes trembled with uncertainty, as if struggling to make sense of what stood before him before the words left his mouth:

"What's this Madness?!"
