Chapter 125: The Hokage's Second Kekkei Genkai; A Gift for Obito Uchiha
"It's hard to say," Hiruzen replied with a smile, answering Asuma's eager
question.
"Do you think learning a standard elemental jutsu is the same as this? Even your
old man doesn't have that kind of terrifying talent."
Asuma nodded thoughtfully, taking the bait.
But Danzo remained vigilant. He could smell the scent of "Strategic Humility"
from a mile away. In Danzo's eyes, Hiruzen's "Credit Score" regarding his own
strength was officially zero. The man was a chronic overachiever who loved to
act like an underdog.
"The same bloodline can manifest in different ways," Hiruzen lectured,
addressing the gathered students.
"Take the Boil Style, for example. That young lady from the Mist uses it as a
corrosive, acidic mist. But the Stone Village's Jinchuriki, Han, uses it as
high-pressure steam to buff his physical speed and striking power."
The Academy students listened with rapt attention. It wasn't every day the God
of Shinobi gave a lecture on high-level nature transformation.
"Lord Hokage, could you... could you show us the process of chakra fusion?
Please!"
Hiruzen chuckled and held up two fingers.
A orb of blue Water-style chakra ignited on one; a flicker of crimson Fire-style
chakra danced on the other.
"If you ever try this, do not attempt it until you have mastered external chakra
manipulation. If you try to fuse elements inside your own body without a
bloodline anchor, the failure rate is near 100%. You'll blow your internal
organs into paste."
Hiruzen's voice was stern. "Remember that."
"Yes, Lord Hokage!" the children chirped.
Under Hiruzen's precise control, the two spheres of chakra began to stretch and
fray, thinning out into thousands of microscopic, glowing threads—like a neon
spiderweb of red and blue. The air between his fingers began to hiss and
crackle.
"Look at that micro-control!" Kakashi whispered, his eyes wide. "We aren't even
on the same map as him."
Asuma nodded solemnly. He had assumed you just smashed the two elements together
like a clap. He hadn't realized it was a matter of molecular-level weaving.
"You have to maximize the surface area where the two energies interact," Hiruzen
explained. "You have to feel the exact moment they stop fighting and start
merging. It takes thousands of attempts, and even then, repetition doesn't
guarantee a result. It's a mix of grueling 'grind' and pure, dumb luck."
The red and blue web suddenly turned unstable, vibrating violently.
Hiruzen's gaze sharpened. He collapsed the web back into a single point of
energy just before it exploded. BOOM. A small shockwave ruffled the hair of the
front-row students.
"And that is why we don't do it inside the lungs," Hiruzen joked.
"Dad! Can you try one more time?" Asuma asked, his eyes full of hope.
He didn't expect a success—he just wanted to see the "Master-tier" display of
chakra threading again. It was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen.
"One more, then. But don't laugh when I fail!"
The students erupted into applause. No one expected a miracle; they just wanted
to bask in the Hokage's presence.
Once again, Hiruzen stretched the chakra into a web, his fingers moving with the
grace of a harpist. As he wove, he continued to explain the principles of
"Chakra Friction" and "Harmonic Resonance." It was a masterclass in Bio-Energy
Dynamics.
Wait...
Hiruzen's heart gave a sudden, electric jolt.
I feel it.
His "System-boosted" potential had been absorbing the data from Mei Terumi's
demonstration earlier. Now, in the middle of the "Repetition," he caught the
Frequency.
Hiruzen's focus became absolute. The red and blue threads didn't just touch;
they began to vanish into one another, turning into a shimmering, pale-white
vapor.
Danzo's jaw dropped.
Tobirama (Seisui) instinctively flared his Sharingan, his pupils dilated in
shock.
Hiruzen wasn't acting anymore. He had genuinely "scratched the lottery ticket"
on his second try.
The entire arena—hundreds of students, teachers, and elite guards—fell into a
silence so absolute you could hear the snow falling in the park. The only sound
was the high-pitched whirring of the chakra in the Hokage's hand.
A moment later, Hiruzen let out a slow breath. He looked at the orb of white
mist in his palm with a look of genuine surprise.
He flicked his wrist. The mist surged forward, hitting the ground and instantly
dissolving a patch of the Ice Park's floor with acidic intensity.
Boil Style: Accomplished.
"LORD HOKAGE! LORD HOKAGE! LORD HOKAGE!"
The silence was shattered by a wall of sound so powerful it felt like it could
reach the stars. The children were screaming, jumping, and hugging each other in
a frenzy of Konoha pride.
"Dad... you liar!" Asuma stammered. "You said you didn't have the talent! You
just lied to your own son!"
Tobirama exhaled a long, heavy breath.
He understood the logic. Even with god-tier skill, you couldn't just "copy" a
bloodline by looking at it—usually. But Hiruzen had been grinding his elemental
basics for years. He had the "Hardware" ready; he just needed the "Driver."
Meeting the Mist girl had provided the final reference data his brain needed to
bridge the gap.
Luck is just the intersection of preparation and opportunity, Tobirama mused.
But this scene... this is going to be a legend. Every child in this arena will
remember the day the Hokage mastered a bloodline in front of their eyes. His
authority is now higher than the Kage who founded this village.
Tobirama could already see the future: these kids would grow up to be the most
fanatical generation of Leaf shinobi in history.
"Hiruzen... you really... you really have no shame," Danzo muttered, looking
like he wanted to crawl into a hole.
He was thinking about his own "Wind Style Mode" which was currently stuck in the
conceptual phase. Seeing Hiruzen collect Kekkei Genkai like they were Academy
merit badges made Danzo's heart ache. Sage of the Six Paths, is this fair?
"Danzo, it was pure luck! I don't know if I can do it again!"
Hiruzen looked at his friend with a look of total, fraudulent sincerity. "Look,
I'll try the Lava Style... see? Nothing! Total failure!"
"If you succeeded at Lava Style too, I'd have to arrest you for being a
reincarnation of the Sage," Danzo grumbled, turning away. He needed a drink. And
a nap.
"Lord Hokage! Lord Hokage! You're the best! Can I get an autograph?!"
Obito Uchiha had broken past the cordon, his face bright red with excitement.
"My grandma always said you were the greatest hero of the Leaf! I worship you,
sir! Today is my grandma's birthday—can I get your signature? She'd be so happy
she'd probably open a whole crate of juice for the neighbors!"
Obito dropped into a deep, clumsy bow.
Hiruzen laughed. He liked this brat. Obito was the "Heart" of the Uchiha, even
if he didn't know it yet.
"I don't have a pen, kid."
Obito's face fell. Disappointment clouded his eyes.
"But," Hiruzen added, grabbing Obito's shoulder and pulling him into a side-hug.
"I have something better. Look at the mirror, brat! Smile!"
Obito instinctively grinned.
A shimmering mirror of ice manifested in front of them. Hiruzen tapped the
surface, his chakra and a tiny bit of Sealing Jutsu locking the image into the
crystal. He then shrank the mirror until it was the size of a small picture
frame.
It was a permanent, glowing "Polaroid" of the Hokage and the Uchiha orphan.
"I've reinforced it with a Seal. It won't melt," Hiruzen said, handing the
Glacial Portrait to the stunned boy. "Tell your grandmother Happy Birthday from
the Hokage. She's a lucky woman to have a grandson as loyal as you."
Obito stared at the frame, his face turning a shade of red that actually
outshone his goggles.
"I... I... THANK YOU, LORD HOKAGE!"
"Alright, go play, kids!"
Hiruzen ruffled Obito's hair and vanished in a blur of speed. He needed to get
back to the office to "Save" the feeling of the Boil Style before the muscle
memory faded.
After the Hokage departed, Danzo stood alone on the observation deck, watching
the children play. He was re-running Hiruzen's words in his head.
'Inspiration... repetition... timing.'
He's right, Danzo thought. I've been trying to force the Wind Mode through sheer
willpower. I need a change of scenery. I need to focus on a different objective.
His gaze drifted to the back of the crowd, where Seisui Uchiha (Tobirama) sat
alone, watching his "brothers" with a look of detached, cold analysis.
The kid didn't cheer with the others, Danzo noted. He stayed quiet. He's
different. He's seen the dark side of the world, just like I have.
I see the 'Shadow' in you, boy.
"You rejected me once," Danzo whispered to the wind. "But for the sake of the
Leaf, I'm giving you a second chance."
"You belong in the darkness, Seisui. And I'm going to be the one to lead you
there."
Little did Danzo know, while he was "Staring into the Abyss," the Abyss was
currently thinking about how to perform a clinical "Correction" on his
administrative failures.
