At the hospital, Liam Linden registered them and paid the fee.
Faye Vaughn stole a glance at his phone.
It was an old model with a large crack running across the screen. It had to be a used phone he'd picked up somewhere cheap.
The way his brow furrowed as he paid told her that things still weren't going well for him.
She had used a fake identity to get him a place to live, but that was far from enough to truly turn his life around.
"You..." After finishing the registration, Liam Linden turned to her, his tone a bit stiff. "Does it still hurt a lot?"
Faye Vaughn nodded, her large, teary eyes brimming with an unspoken accusation: 'This is all your fault.'
Liam Linden looked away and said coolly, "You're the one who insisted on following me."
Faye Vaughn muttered, "Yes, yes, I brought it on myself. But since we're here anyway, why don't you get checked out too?"
Liam Linden asked, "What for?"
Faye Vaughn pointed to his forehead. "You're bleeding."
