More and more people surged toward the entrance, and it looked like Faye Vaughn was about to get bumped into again. Vincent Hawthorne reached out and said in a low voice, "If you don't mind, I'll carry you back to the car."
Faye Vaughn agreed softly, "Thank you, Lawyer Hawthorne."
Vincent Hawthorne didn't allow himself another thought. He slid an arm around her waist, his palm cupping her side, and scooped her up.
She was light.
And soft.
Four words flashed through Vincent Hawthorne's mind: 'Warm, fragrant, soft jade.'
Taking long strides, he moved swiftly out of the crush of people.
The parking spot was indeed a bit far. As he walked, he looked down at the girl in his arms. "Does it hurt a lot?"
Faye Vaughn leaned her head against his shoulder and shook it gently. "It's fine as long as I'm not walking on it."
Vincent Hawthorne's gaze drifted downward, naturally landing on the flushed corners of her eyes and her slightly parted lips.
