Over the Endless Sea, the morning light had yet to fully pierce the veil of night.
A black line appeared on the horizon. It stretched endlessly from east to west, as if attempting to stitch the entire skyline together. At first, it was barely a silhouette, but in just twenty minutes, the black line rapidly thickened and rose. It was a living tide composed of countless dark green bodies covered in scales and slime, surging relentlessly toward the continent.
The sound arrived before the physical forms.
Dozens of kilometers away on the defensive lines, the soldiers of the Royal Army heard the spine-chilling commotion. Hundreds of thousands of bodies frantically slapped, kicked, and crushed against one another in the water. The noise coalesced into a deep, chaotic roar, as if the entire ocean were screaming in agony.
