Shen Xin stood outside the police tape, surveying the entire scene.
Most of the forensic technicians had gone up the mountain to Li Xingping's house to search for evidence. Only a single young officer remained here, combing through the grass beside the concrete path, inch by inch, for any possible clues.
Just then, Li Xiaowen came over and handed him a pair of shoe covers. "Go on in and take a look. If you have any thoughts, don't hold back. Give us your opinion. After all, you're from the big city."
Shen Xin froze for a moment, then quickly shook his head. "No, I couldn't possibly have any ideas."
Seeing Shen Xin's reaction, Li Xiaowen suddenly realized his last sentence—about him being from the big city—could be taken the wrong way.
Li Xiaowen quickly explained, "Shen Xin, don't get the wrong idea. When I said you're from the big city, I meant… I meant that your criminal investigation techniques are more advanced over there. I really didn't mean anything else."
