"Not cause a scene?" Marmalade gave a cold smile. "You had the nerve to do something like that, and you're afraid of me saying it out loud?"
"What did I do?" Bruno Lawson raged. "Don't spout such nonsense!"
"Then swear on it." Marmalade's eyes were fixed on him. "Swear that you never did anything to betray my mom. If you did, may you follow her to the grave tonight!"
"I don't have time for your games!" Bruno Lawson turned his face away and started to leave.
Marmalade immediately blocked his path. "You're running because you're guilty."
Bruno Lawson's face was livid. He gritted out, "Judy Lawson, you'd better get one thing straight. I am your father!"
"Not anymore!" Marmalade said, her voice full of disappointment. "The moment you and this Number Three made my mom pass out from rage, the moment you didn't call an ambulance and just left with Number Three, causing Mom to miss her best chance for survival—that's when you stopped being my father!"
