Several gossips grabbed Jessica by her arms and clothes. Infuriated, she yelled, "Let go of me! This has nothing to do with you!"
"Looks like you don't know your place. Do you have any idea where you are?" Her mother-in-law strode forward, looking ferocious, and raised her hand to slap her.
"Mom!" Jessica's husband shouted. "What are you all doing?"
Seeing her son had arrived, the mother-in-law stopped.
She hurried over to her son and told him about her conversation with her new daughter-in-law.
Jessica's husband's expression suddenly darkened, and a complex look entered his eyes as he stared at his new wife.
"Mom, don't worry. I'll handle it." He soothed his mother, then walked toward his wife and said in a joking tone, "Aunties, it's alright, nothing to worry about. Please let go of my wife. We can't have you scaring her away."
Only then did the gossips let go of Jessica.
