She headed to the door on her right. Just as she typed in the code and pushed the door open a crack, a voice suddenly sounded from behind her. "Got any tea at home today?"
She looked back. Zane Jennings was still standing by the elevator.
He was different today. He was usually all smiles, but ever since they'd met up just now, his brow had been furrowed, as if he were weighed down by something he was powerless to change.
The last time he'd asked, she'd said no and frozen for a long moment. This time, she nodded, a little dazed. "Yeah."
"Good." He walked over, pushed the door open the rest of the way, and went inside. "Guess I'll come in for a cup of tea, then."
As he walked past her, his delight was written all over his face.
Erin Lowell snapped out of her daze and followed him inside. There was only a single pair of white slippers in the entryway. He stood to one side. "Should I take my shoes off?"
