A flicker of emotion crossed Sandra Lawrence's eyes. After that, without another word exchanged, she nodded and headed into the hospital.
A moment later, he glanced back. The girl's steps were steady, her long skirt swaying with her stride. She turned a corner and vanished from sight.
He pulled his gaze away, tightened his grip on the umbrella handle, and stepped into the rain.
"Sir, why are you out here?"
After leaving the hospital, his assistant, Kyle Hughes, had gone to get the car from the parking lot. There had been a small incident, delaying him, and he had just grabbed an umbrella and run back, leaving him slightly out of breath.
After taking a couple of steps, Caleb Sullivan looked up.
Kyle Hughes tilted the umbrella, glancing over with his heart in his throat. Surprisingly, there was no murderous intent on Caleb's face.
'In the past, if he'd had to wait this long, he wouldn't have let it slide so easily.'
"Let's go."
