"You still owe me a lot of meals. This came out to one fifty-seven. Just transfer me the money later, and we can call it your treat. You sure you're not hungry?"
"This is your home. You have to keep me company whether you eat or not. Unless, of course, you're trying to owe me for another meal. I'd have no objection to that."
After a moment's calculation, Erin Lowell sat down. Worried he might forget, she reminded him again, "Don't forget to change the address next time."
"It's all the same."
Erin froze. "Why do you say that?"
"It doesn't matter what address I put." He handed her a pair of chopsticks and looked up at her, his gaze searing. "I like eating with you."
His words left her choked with exasperation.
After a long stretch of silence, she finally came up with a retort. "But I like eating alone."
"Oh."
Zane Jennings mumbled his reply with his head down and said nothing more on the matter.
