The mother and daughter were chatting warmly inside when, at some point, shouts of "HOO! HAH! HIYAH!" started up from outside.
"Those boys are still at it! Look what time it is, and they're still making a racket. I'm going to go give them a piece of my mind." Li Yuanshan got out of bed, ready to go outside and scold her children.
Back at their own home, the houses weren't very close to each other, so the boys could do somersaults and practice their moves in the yard without disturbing anyone. She usually just let them be. But things were different here. The houses were packed tightly together, the yard was tiny, and their sides and back were right up against their neighbors' properties. Now that it was dark, she didn't want them to bother anyone. It really wasn't worth getting an earful from the neighbors.
"Don't mind them. Just let them play," the old lady called from behind her. "They're growing boys. You can't keep them cooped up all day, every day."
