Wen Ying listened closely. The sound seemed to be coming from the hallway.
'No wonder they keep you inside at night in these horror movie setups. A normal person would be scared to death.'
The sound was like a swarm of ants on the move, causing both physical and psychological discomfort.
Wen Ying finished her instant noodles and drank a bottle of water.
Then she stood up. "Should we go take a look?"
The words had barely left her mouth when she heard a THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
The knocking grew louder, starting as a light tap before turning into a heavy pounding, as if someone were hammering on the door with their fist.
The door shook with the impacts. The force behind it was immense.
'Wen Ying wasn't sure if the door could hold.'
Zizi, zizi, zizi...
Suddenly, a small crack appeared in the wall behind her bed. A slip of paper was tucked inside. Wen Ying pulled it out. The handwriting on it was rather ugly: Turn off the light, be quiet, play dead.
It was just those seven words.
