Lu Xize pulled Chu Yao into his arms, and they leaned back on the bed together. His chin rested on her forehead, his gaze growing deep as it stared off into the distance.
Chu Yao's ear was pressed against his chest, so she couldn't see his expression. After a long moment, Lu Xize's deep voice rumbled from above her. "My mother's family is enormous. She had a huge falling out with them back when she chose to be with my father."
Chu Yao pressed her lips together and said nothing. She knew a little about this, but only bits and pieces. She didn't really have a clear idea of what Lu Xize's mother's background truly was.
"After their divorce, my mother took me back to the UK. My maternal grandfather was getting old by then, and there were many predatory members within the family. They saw my mother as vulnerable and alone, unable to fight back, and tried to drive us out of the Lu Family."
Perhaps to ensure Chu Yao understood everything clearly, Lu Xize spoke very slowly and directly.
