HXH : Highschool of the Dead

"According to officials from the Department of Justice, over 100,000 personnel involved in the industry have been arrested in this operation, but this is merely the beginning..."

In a suite, Kenmei Isayama leaned back in his chair. With his hair dyed blonde and slicked back, he looked nothing like an Inquisitor.

His current persona was that of an arrogant noble official, dissatisfied with the service at a certain brothel, who had proposed a rectification of the entire industry.

Kenmei watched the screen where the news anchor reported with great excitement, and smiled at the footage of "criminals" being escorted away with hoods over their heads.

Under Kenmei's instructions, the entire Middle Hive of the Hive World had begun a "greening" process to eliminate vice. Not only were the illicit underground brothels targeted, but even some underground casinos were liquidated along with them.

The intensity of the enforcement was unprecedented in the centuries-long history of the Adeli Hive World. Kenmei intended to thoroughly purify this soil of sin, uprooting all the filth that had taken root and been buried deep underground over the years.

"Isn't your goal to offer sacrifices to Slaanesh?"

"Then I'll just pull the plug and make everything you could possibly sacrifice disappear."

Kenmei had the Department of Justice separate the arrested men and women into different prisons to prevent any... activities. Each person was housed in a solitary cell of four square meters.

The Department of Justice invested a massive amount of manpower and resources into the centralized custody of these people. At the same time, they carried out a concentrated cleanup of these illicit establishments, uncovering a large quantity of contraband related to the Chaos Gods of the Warp.

Just as Kenmei had imagined, the venues run by the "Wild Horse Gang" used special incense tainted with the foul stench of Slaanesh. The interior décor even incorporated Slaaneshi sacrificial offerings, causing people to unconsciously perceive various evil and filthy powers.

Kenmei felt like the local Department of Justice had been eating sht to let Chaos erode things to this extent without noticing.

The Slaaneshi cult was just one part of it. There were all sorts of motley beliefs here; even the gods of Xenos races were blooming everywhere. Good grief, it was truly blasphemous.

If Kenmei's fellow Inquisitors were here, they probably would have fired a few Macro-cannon rounds from a Black Ship just to calm their nerves.

As Kenmei was thinking this, Elena's voice suddenly rang in his ear.

"Mr. Elfman, the hotel we are staying at seems to be surrounded by civilians."

Kenmei wasn't surprised. On the contrary, he felt the other side had been too patient to wait until now to react.

But using civilians to cause a disturbance? That was too low-class. Kenmei was clearly targeting criminal forces. Moreover, he was a high-ranking Imperial official; surrounding his hotel without a proper reason was tantamount to treason.

"What's their reason?"

Hearing Kenmei ask this, Elena seemed a bit embarrassed to speak.

"The situation is very complicated. Some can't find their wives, some can't find their girlfriends, and some are upset that their favorite technicians have been arrested, so they've gathered together to demand an explanation."

"Also, the unique Qixi Festival of Adeli is about to pass, which has made these people quite emotional."

Hearing Elena's answer, the amount of information was overwhelming, and Kenmei didn't know what to say for a moment.

Okay then. Who would have thought his major operation with the Department of Justice would expose countless broken families?

As for releasing people according to their demands? That was impossible.

Kenmei thought for a moment and said to Elena:

"Arrest all these people and throw them in prison. Let them gaze at each other through the bars."

Kenmei wanted to give a few more detailed instructions, but he suddenly heard a very faint, unusual noise from the corridor not far away—a sound one wouldn't notice unless listening carefully.

An ordinary person might have dismissed it as an illusion, but Kenmei and Elena couldn't miss such an anomaly. They exchanged a glance and confirmed it.

A "thief" had entered the house.

"Trash. All of them are trash."

The uninvited guest, whose figure was completely concealed by a black cloak, was the traitor to the Inquisition, Tosak Rome.

He had been waiting to extend his influence throughout the Middle Hive, to shine the glory of his god upon this world and obtain even more powerful gifts of pleasure.

But as luck would have it, some bastard used his authority to seal off every single one of Tosak Rome's businesses without exception. His plan collapsed right before dawn—how could he not be angry?

Those old slickers in the law enforcement department had all been killed, so Tosak Rome couldn't get anything done even if he wanted to find someone.

To deal with this Imperial high official who had popped out of nowhere, Tosak Rome decided to act personally to ensure success. He had no choice; none of his subordinates were skilled enough for this kind of assassination mission.

"Can't even wait for nightfall?"

Hearing the movement inside the bedroom, Tosak Rome sneered.

He had received intelligence that this official never left his room and just stayed inside with his secretary. What else could they be doing but filthy things?

But just as he was about to crack the door open and release a colorless, odorless poison into the room to kill the adulterous couple, a pitch-black gun barrel silently appeared in his line of sight from the other side of the door.

"How is that possible?!"

Tosak Rome's eyes widened instantly. He even saw the spark of the bullet leaving the chamber, and the sense of crisis in his heart peaked immediately.

Bang! Bang!

Two loud gunshots and the sound of tearing flesh rang out, followed by the explosive sound of shattering walls. These terrifying noises intertwined, instantly attracting the security personnel outside.

But just as they hurriedly burst through the door, looking tense, they were stunned to see a visible, surging wave of heat accompanying the shockwave of an explosion rushing toward them.

Just as the flames of the explosion were about to engulf them like a fire dragon, time seemed to reverse. The endless fire dragon receded, leaving behind only the scorched floor and ceiling. These violent flames moved toward the innermost part of the room at incredible speed.

Finally, they converged into a small fireball in the center of someone's palm, the dazzling white light filled with terrifying heat.

Kenmei held the fireball in one hand and a severed, bloody arm in the other, looking at the blasphemous tattoos on the limb.

Tosak Rome, caught off guard just now, had decisively detonated the high-yield explosives he carried. The power was so great that Kenmei's room had been completely destroyed. Thanks to Kenmei's psychic power, neither he nor Elena had sustained any injuries.

However, under the cover of the explosion, Tosak Rome—leaving behind only a bloody severed arm—had vanished without a trace.

Kenmei coldly ordered the bodyguards below:

"Start sealing off all entrances and exits to the Middle Hive immediately. No one is allowed to leave, no matter who they are."
