As soon as Davit reached the middle of the blue mosque,he felt dread.Some inner voice was telling him,that he wouldn't be the same after changing his faith.He immediately recalled his nightmare and his mother's words.He was shivering.Yusuf felt his tension on his left hand that was holding Davit't right hand:
-What's wrong?Are you okay?
-Father,I'm afraid of forgetting my identity and origin.Why should I become muslim?I don't want it at all!Why are you forcing me?
-Do you think,that any slave here converted to Islam voluntarily?No,not at all!Me neither!
-Then why?
-Because if you don't,Ottoman law won't allow you to live!Unless someone is not a slave.Only foreign merchants who have business here can maintain their religions.There is no other choice.Moreover,do you know,that every muslim's obligation is to make at least one non-muslim convert to Islam?Now,let's go to the imam.
-Who is he?
-He serves this mosque.
The imam entered from the yard and appeared in front of Yusuf and Davit.Yusuf told him,that he wanted Davit to become muslim by saying the faith formula.Davit,the imam and Yusuf sat down on the carpet.The imam passed Quran to Davit and told him to put his right hand on it and say the formula.
-What is this?-Davit asked.
-This is our sacred book.It is called Quran.Now,say this 3 times:There is no god except Allah and Mohammad is his disciple!
Davit remembered what his mother used to tell him about Jesus,that he is the son of god and the woman called Mariam gave birth to him.He also recalled,that his parents told him,that Jesus never forced anyone to follow his teaching.Eventually,he remembered his mother's furious face in the nightmare he saw last night.He got tense and almost stopped breathing.Then,he remembered for a second what Yusuf told him.If he wanted to stay alive,he had no option but to forcibly convert to Islam.After taking a deep breath,Davit said Islamic faith formula 3 times.The imam smiled at him:
-You are now muslim.From now on,your name is Selim.It means the one who is harmless.Your name will defend you.
