Using Yomi and Unicycle to produce Xyz special effects like a galaxy exploding in space. Wings shining with the brilliant will of the great universe, Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon roared into existence on Amano's field.
"You've got to be kidding me! Even my Galaxy-Eyes!"
Inside the Kaiba Corporation lounge, Kaiba Chiha was already angry enough to pound the transparent floor-to-ceiling window with her fists.
Her most hated man, the man who had defeated her, had just Xyz Summoned her own Galaxy-Eyes monster. This humiliation infinitely magnified by galaxy light made Kaiba Chiha stamp her feet in fury.
"You really should just die! You really should just die, Amano Rei!"
But then again...
Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, though a Galaxy-Eyes monster, was something Kaiba Chiha couldn't even Xyz Summon herself. Her Extra Deck didn't contain this monster at all.
Amano Rei had extended those sinful hands toward a galaxy even more distant than her own!
Naturally, Amano with his complete Dragon Extra Deck could Xyz Summon Galaxy-Eyes monsters that even Kaiba Chiha didn't yet possess.
You might ask: if Xyz Summoning was so convenient, why hadn't Amano used Xyz before?
That was naturally because Dragon-Types were far too proud -- most dragons disdained appearing at low Ranks.
Amano's previous weak monster deck could only overlay Xyz for Rank 3 or lower Dragon-Type monsters.
However, among Dragons' hundreds of Extra Deck monsters, Rank 3 and below Dragon-Type Xyz monsters numbered only six at most, and most lacked any real combat power.
But Rank 8 and above Dragon-Type Xyz were different. Xyz Rank 8 had already entered Galaxy-Eyes territory.
Amano's shocking explosive Xyz actually silenced the atmosphere that had grown noisy after Blue-Eyes White Dragon's appearance.
Events were developing beyond public understanding.
And these seasoned veterans whose every move represented family image didn't dare comment when they realized the truth was completely beyond their control.
Except for those with real credentials.
Nanki'in Muramasa exclaimed in shock. "Young friend Amano actually masters both Synchro and Xyz Summoning simultaneously! Truly rare dueling talent! Hey, President Kaiba, what do you think?"
Using Blue-Eyes White Dragon to guide levels, then Synchro Summoning Galaxy-Eyes Xyz monsters. At a time like this, probably only someone at Nanki'in Muramasa's level would dare ask Kaiba Chiaki's opinion.
"Amano Rei." Kaiba Chiaki slowly spoke. "An interesting duelist."
"Hey, hey, this is the man my granddaughter has her eye on. You can't steal him away!"
Kaiba Chiaki was speechless, just wanting to distance herself from this overly rough underworld boss.
"After Rin Seiya, now using false levels to imitate Chiha?"
Karl gazed at the galaxy dragon ahead. He had to admit that as a field used by top-ten Academy ranked duelists, just standing opposite it created overwhelming pressure.
Just what was up with this Amano Rei?
Others might not know, but Karl had witnessed Amano's Fusion Summoning before.
He'd thought adding Synchro was already Amano's limit. Now he'd pulled out Xyz too.
"Next comes Galaxy-Eyes' combat style!"
Amano pointed through galaxy light, activating the monster's Xyz effect.
"Once per turn, by detaching 1 Xyz Material from Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, I can take control of 1 of your monsters! -- Photon Stream!"
Enveloped in galaxy light, Karl's Excalibur had its control changed and was forcibly transferred to Amano's field.
"And monsters controlled by Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon's effect have their ATK become 3000, and their names are treated as 'Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon'!"
As if forcibly transformed by cosmic radiation waves, Excalibur also became dragon-shaped.
The ATK-changing effect wasn't hard to understand, but why specifically change the name?
This involved another form of Xyz Summoning.
Xyz Summoning, besides overlaying two monsters of the same Level, could also perform Rank-Up Xyz on top of an Xyz Monster already on your field when summoning conditions were met.
"On top of Excalibur whose name is treated as 'Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon,' I perform a Rank-Up Xyz Summon!"
The Galaxy-Eyes combat style -- Galaxy-Eyes stacking.
"Where galaxy light guides, the door to a new world shall open!"

Galaxy light covered the King's Sword, performing Rank-Up Xyz on top of Excalibur whose name had been changed to "Galaxy-Eyes." Clad in pitch-black heavy armor, the galaxy dragon roared on Amano's field.
"Not done yet! The galaxy's blade swings toward the universe's farthest reaches! Tear open the rift in darkness!"
After overlaying, continuing to Rank-Up Xyz, Galaxy-Eyes Full Armor Photon Dragon's form evolved once more.

One of Galaxy-Eyes' evolutionary endpoints -- it couldn't be overlaid further.
The Rank 9 Xyz Cipher Blade Dragon, though slightly lower in ATK than Full Armor Dragon, gained an effect that could destroy any card.
"I detach an Xyz Material to activate Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Blade Dragon's effect! I destroy your Set card!"
Karl had two Set cards in his back row. Amano raised his hand toward the leftmost card.
"Go! -- Cipher Blade Shatter Slash!"
The galaxy dragon swung its wrist's dazzling light blade toward the Set card. The card split cleanly along the cut, exposing its true form.
[HALLOWED LIFE BARRIER] destroyed.
You might ask why not destroy Karl's monster?
That's because Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon had a troublesome self-restriction -- on the turn it activated its effect, only Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon could attack directly.
Karl's Life Points were currently maxed at 4000. Using only Photon Dragon's 3000 ATK for a direct attack couldn't push him into OTK range.
Leaving the 2000 ATK Heroic Champion - Kusanagi allowed Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Blade Dragon to also attack, dealing an additional 1200 battle damage to complete a one-turn kill scenario.
"Battle phase! My twin galaxy dragons!"
Amano declared entry to the Battle Phase.
The dumbstruck audience below watched Amano's monster field entering battle.
Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon with 3000 ATK, Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Blade Dragon with 3200 ATK -- dual galaxy radiance shining brilliantly on the field.
If they remembered correctly, Amano's initial two monsters on the field were Yomi and Unicycle, right?
Was this even legal?!
Nanki'in Sakuya: "When did Amano get this strong?"
She'd seen several of Amano's duels, but each duel's style seemed like a different person.
Though the Main Deck still had those familiar weak monsters. But the end boards kept getting more terrifying.
Could a normal person improve by such a massive margin in such a short time?
"Attack target -- Heroic Champion - Kusanagi! -- Cipher Blade Infinite Slash!!"
The wildly swinging light blade burst forth like meteor blade rain crossing the universe, all crashing toward Karl's 2000 ATK monster.

Finesse: "Into OTK range!"
Nanki'in Sakuya: "Is he going to win?!"
Amano's remaining Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Blade Dragon could attack directly.
However, when the bombardment smoke cleared, the single-kneeling Kusanagi still stubbornly remained on Karl's field.
Karl's final Set card was revealed.
Trap Card [ATTACK INVULNERABILITY].
Attack Invulnerability
The name was similar to Attack Nullification, but the effect was different -- a two-choice selection.
Choose to make a monster on your field indestructible, or choose to take no battle damage yourself.
Since Kusanagi still existed on the field, Karl's choice was obvious.

"Even a broken holy sword can still protect those behind it!"
Since Karl's two Set cards were one Attack Invulnerability and one Hallowed Life Barrier, whichever one Amano destroyed, he couldn't OTK this turn.
"But even if it won't be destroyed by battle, you still take the battle damage!"
Amano continued attacking. Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon gathered high-energy impact in its mouth.
"-- Annihilation Photon Stream!!"
Karl LP: 2800 - 1800
"Right now!" As Kusanagi tanked the Annihilation Photon Stream, Karl ejected a card from his Duel Disk's Graveyard. "Heroic Challenger - Thousand Blades' effect activates from the Graveyard!"

"Amano Rei, even using the same Galaxy-Eyes monsters as Chiha, you might not beat me!"
"You're way more impressive than I expected, Karl. I Set two cards and end my turn."
"My turn, draw!"
Drawing the turn's opening card, facing Amano's twin galaxy dragon formation, Karl had three usable hand cards this turn.
"I activate Heroic Challenger - Thousand Blades' effect! By discarding Heroic Challenger - Double Lance from my hand, I Special Summon Heroic Challenger - Spartan from my Deck!"

Using just two hand cards, Karl directly filled his Monster Zones -- four Level 4 monsters plus the Rank 4 Xyz Heroic Champion - Kusanagi that survived from last turn.
"Go! This is my blade's final Xyz burst, reaching the ultimate holy sword's domain!"
"Thousand Blades and Spartan Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Heroic Champion - Kusanagi!"
"Double Lance and Double Lance Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Heroic Champion - Kusanagi!"
On Karl's field, three completely identical Xyz Monsters stood shoulder to shoulder from the bursting Overlay.
Three [HEROIC CHAMPION - KUSANAGI].
"Heroic Challenger - Spartan's effect! An Xyz Monster that used this card as material gains 1000 ATK!"
Though three identical monsters, each monster's state was slightly different.
One had full materials at 3000 ATK.
One had full materials at 2000 ATK.
One had no materials at 2000 ATK.
"Forge the mightiest blade from common iron! This is Heroic Champion - Kusanagi's effect!"
Karl picked up the Monster Zone card from last turn -- the Kusanagi that had been forcibly preserved, had already used its effect, and had no Xyz Materials.
"During either player's Main Phase, I can equip Heroic Champion - Kusanagi as an Equip Card that increases ATK and DEF by 2000 to a monster I control!"
Karl chose to equip it to the 3000 ATK Kusanagi.

Declaring entry to the Battle Phase, Karl used Kusanagi equipped with Kusanagi against Galaxy-Eyes overlaid on Galaxy-Eyes.

"-- Ultimate Excalibur!"
Dual holy sword phantoms converged in this moment into a giant blade that could sever the universe.
And at damage calculation, Karl directly detached two Xyz Materials to activate the ATK-doubling effect.

Final ATK ten thousand -- a single sword as if capable of shattering even galaxies.
Amano's Life Points would be instantly cleared.
"Borrowing your card, Karl."
Amano's Set Trap flipped -- the grave robber quickly dove into Karl's Graveyard, expertly pulling out a card.
The anime's original Grave Robber effect could directly copy a Spell/Trap Card in the opponent's Graveyard and use it as its own effect.
Before this, Amano hadn't known whether this unruled anime effect could activate during damage calculation.
But it seemed to have succeeded.
The grave robber grinned wickedly, flipping and revealing the card from Karl's Graveyard -- the Trap Card Hallowed Life Barrier, the card Cipher Blade Dragon had severed last turn.

Though Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Blade Dragon was destroyed, the Trap absorbed the 6800 damage impact and converted it into an additional draw opportunity for Amano.
"Draw!"
Originally Amano only had one hand card remaining, and it was practically an open card -- the Maiden Receiving the Chalice recovered from the Graveyard last turn.
This draw could perfectly combo with it.
"Continue attacking, Kusanagi!"
Karl activated the second Xyz Kusanagi's doubling effect, attacking with 4000 ATK to destroy Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon on Amano's field.
Amano LP: 4000 - 3000
Shattered galaxy particles drifted past, returning Amano's Monster Zone to an empty field state.
"You're more impressive than I expected, Amano."
This was the line Amano had said to Karl last turn.
Fighting to the end, the two even felt a sense of mutual respect.
Initially, Karl had only accepted this duel to help his sister vent and avenge his friend.
But in battle with Amano, he felt an unusual will.
Like that Continuous Spell Amano had activated -- The Will of the Commoners.
Using the most ordinary common-bone deck, yet producing the most extraordinary duel.
Karl suddenly understood why his sister always liked staying by Amano's side.
This person's duels were just fascinating to watch.
"But I'll be the one who wins in the end, Karl!" Amano responded confidently.
"No, I'll be the one who wins!" Karl glanced at his final hand card.
Trap Card [MIRROR FORCE].
This wasn't the guaranteed-to-fail Sakuretsu Armor.
Mirror Force combined with his field's Heroic Champion - Kusanagi -- the mightiest sword and shield.
"I Set one card and end my turn! If you can attack, then try it, Amano!"
"You said it!" Catching the exact timing of Karl's turn-end declaration, Amano flipped his final Set card from last turn.
"Trap Card -- Necro Fusion!"
A Trap that could use monsters in the Graveyard as Fusion Materials.
Amano's crossed final Fusion sent the proud white dragon's body flying toward the galaxy sea.
Two cards as Fusion Materials ejected from the Duel Disk's Graveyard.
"I'm fusing Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Blade Dragon from my Graveyard!"
Blue-Eyes and Galaxy-Eyes' Fusion -- the enraged dragon's roar shattered the galaxy universe, transforming Xyz's Overlay special effects into Fusion's spiral special effects.
Amano had used all three summoning methods in one duel.
"The legendary dragon 'Fang of Critias's' will -- shroud the galaxy with tyrant dragon wings!"
"Witness this! Blue-Eyes Fusion that pierces heaven, earth, and universe!"
