Chapter 41 - Chapter 41- Learning the pack

The morning after the ceremony was quiet.

Hazel woke up early.

The mansion was still.

Modern.

Silver sunlight entered through the large glass windows.

She sat on the bed for a long time before standing.

Because yesterday had changed things.

People were watching her now.

Not as an outsider.

Not as a tourist.

But as someone the pack was considering accepting.

And she did not know what that meant.

Hazel left her room and walked downstairs.

Ryan was standing in the main living room.

As if he had been waiting.

"Good morning," he said calmly.

Hazel folded her arms slightly.

"Morning."

Silence followed.

Then Ryan spoke.

"You need pack education."

Hazel frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Ryan explained simply.

"You are entering political and social hierarchy inside Red Moon Territory."

Hazel blinked.

"I don't understand half of what you just said."

Ryan nodded.

"That is why you need someone to teach you."

Hazel said immediately:

"Not you."

Ryan's expression didn't change.

"Why?"

Hazel answered honestly.

"Because I don't trust you yet."

Silence.

Ryan accepted it.

Then asked:

"Who do you want as your teacher?"

Hazel thought for a moment.

Then said:

"Annabelle's mate."

Ryan raised a brow slightly.

"Nick?"

"Yes."

Ryan was silent for a moment.

Then nodded.

"Very well."

Hazel was slightly surprised.

"You agree easily."

"I do not force cooperation."

Hazel didn't respond.

Later that day—

Nick arrived.

The Gamma was relaxed.

Friendly.

Observant.

Hazel liked him immediately.

He was not intimidating.

Not political.

Just straightforward.

"Okay," Nick said, sitting across from her in the garden.

"You don't know pack duties."

"No."

"Good."

Hazel blinked.

"That's good?"

"Yes," Nick said calmly.

"Because I can teach from zero."

Hazel nodded.

Nick began explaining.

"Luna is not just Alpha mate."

Hazel listened carefully.

"It is also social stability, female pack leadership, diplomatic representation, and emotional balance inside pack hierarchy."

Hazel frowned.

"That sounds exhausting."

Nick smiled slightly.

"It is."

Silence.

Then Nick said:

"Ryan wanted to teach you himself."

Hazel didn't respond immediately.

"Why didn't you let him?"

Hazel answered quietly.

"I don't want to depend on him."

Nick nodded slowly.

"Understandable."

He continued.

"Alpha presence can make learning harder when emotional tension exists."

Hazel asked suddenly:

"Do you think he is dangerous?"

Nick thought for a moment.

Then said honestly:

"Yes."

Hazel waited.

"But?"

Nick added quietly:

"He is patient with you."

Hazel was silent.

Nick continued teaching.

Over the next days—

Nick stayed near Hazel almost constantly.

Not controlling.

Not protecting aggressively.

Just present.

Answering questions.

Explaining pack social systems.

Female pack leadership.

Territory diplomacy.

Hunter threat hierarchy.

Hazel learned slowly.

Sometimes frustratingly.

But she learned.

And during those quiet lessons—

Nick occasionally spoke about Ryan.

"Alpha doesn't show emotion easily," Nick said once.

"He believes control is protection."

Hazel didn't respond.

Another time Nick said:

"He has waited a long time."

Hazel frowned slightly.

"For what?"

Nick smiled faintly.

"For you."

Hazel didn't answer.

But later that night—

She stood on the balcony alone.

Thinking about everything.

About Ryan watching her.

About his injuries.

About his silence.

About how he never forced her.

About how he walked away when she said not to touch her.

And Hazel realized something slowly.

Very slowly.

Annoyingly slowly.

She did not hate him as much as she wanted to.

The realization scared her.

Because she was starting to feel something she was not ready to name.

And somewhere inside the mansion—

Ryan was watching her shadow move across the balcony glass.

Silent.

Patient.

Waiting.
