Violet's POV
I sat at the small writing desk near the window, reviewing scrolls about pack trade routes, when a soft knock sounded at the door. I was still learning about the pack and everything concerning it, and mornings like this were usually the best times for that. However, I rarely ever got through one scroll without a distraction, I was used to it now.
"Come in," I called.
The door opened, and Mateo stepped inside carrying a small bouquet of wildflowers, pale blue forget-me-nots mixed with delicate white lilies. His smile was warm, cautious, the kind that had slowly chipped away at the walls I kept around myself this past week.
"Good morning, Violet," he said, voice low and gentle as he crossed the room. He placed the flowers in the crystal vase on my table, arranging them with surprising care. "I thought these might brighten your day. The gardens are finally blooming again after the frost."
