Chapter 30 - When Void reaches hete

The air itself felt wrong.

Not heavy—hollow.

Fenrik noticed it first as they crossed the broken ridge. The wind did not howl here. It moved without sound, slipping across the cracked stone like something alive but unwilling to announce itself. His grip tightened around the Wolf Slayer Axe, its edge faintly humming as if warning him.

"This place…" Fenrik muttered. "It's not dead."

Taro slowed beside him, the Tiger Reaper Scythe resting against his shoulder. His eyes scanned the land ahead—jagged obsidian spires rising from the earth like claws, their surfaces swallowing light instead of reflecting it.

"It's worse," Taro replied. "It's listening."

Behind them, the allies formed a loose line.

Aoi Mizuno adjusted the bindings on her gauntlets, blue sigils pulsing faintly along her arms. Koharu knelt briefly, touching the ground, her expression tightening as she withdrew her hand.

"There's movement beneath us," she said. "Not creatures. Magic. Flowing… like veins."

Kaizen Ryu stood a few steps apart from the group, silent as ever. His presence felt distant, almost detached from the world, yet the space around him subtly bent—as if reality itself acknowledged him differently. His eyes were fixed forward, unreadable.

"This is not Earth alone anymore," Kaizen said calmly. "We are standing at the edge of Forvogera's bleed zone."

The name alone sent a ripple of unease through the group.

Forvogera—the realm touched by Malzareon, the Void Serpent.

Before anyone could respond, the ground trembled.

Not violently. Rhythmically.

Boom.

Boom.

Boom.

From the horizon, shapes began to rise.

At first, they looked like silhouettes carved from darkness—humanoid, tall, their bodies wrapped in shifting void matter. As they drew closer, details emerged: armor fused directly into shadowed flesh, eyes glowing with a cold violet spiral. Long weapons formed of condensed emptiness extended from their arms—blades that bent space slightly around their edges.

Aoi exhaled sharply. "Those aren't demons."

"No," Fenrik said. "They're soldiers."

The first wave stopped simultaneously, as if commanded by a single thought. Then, as one, they raised their weapons.

The void screamed.

The battlefield erupted.

Koharu was the first to move. She slammed her staff into the ground, light bursting outward in a wide arc. "Barrier formation—now!"

A translucent dome flared into existence just as a barrage of void blades tore through the air, ripping craters into the land where they struck. The barrier trembled under the impact, cracks spreading like frost.

"They hit like compressed space!" Koharu shouted.

Taro leapt forward before the shield could fail. His scythe spun, carving a crescent of crimson energy that tore through the front line of soldiers. The void beings split apart—but instead of falling, their bodies unraveled into black mist, reforming seconds later.

"They regenerate," Taro growled.

Fenrik roared and charged.

The Wolf Slayer Axe came down with feral force, cleaving one soldier clean in half. This time, the shadow did not reform. The axe pulsed, devouring the void residue like fuel.

"That's it!" Fenrik shouted. "My weapon can erase them—permanently!"

"Then don't stop swinging," Aoi said, launching herself into the fray.

Her fists glowed as she struck, every impact releasing shockwaves of condensed mana. Each punch shattered void armor, staggering the soldiers long enough for others to finish them off.

Kaizen moved differently.

He did not rush.

He stepped.

Space folded.

One moment he stood behind Fenrik—then suddenly, he was in the center of the enemy formation. With a casual motion, he extended his hand. The void soldiers around him froze, their bodies distorting as if caught in invisible currents.

"Spatial compression," Kaizen said quietly.

With a snap of his fingers, the space collapsed inward.

The soldiers imploded—silently.

Fenrik stared. "You didn't even touch them."

Kaizen didn't respond. His gaze lifted.

More soldiers were coming.

Hundreds.

The ground split open as towering figures emerged—larger constructs formed entirely of void matter, their torsos inscribed with glowing sigils identical to those seen in Malzareon's manifestation during the Sage's visions.

A deep, echoing voice rolled across the land.

"You trespass within the coil of the Void."

The sky darkened as a massive serpentine silhouette coiled among the clouds, its presence not fully manifest—but undeniably there.

Malzareon was watching.

Koharu clenched her teeth. "He's not here… but he's close enough to command them directly."

"So this is a test," Aoi said. "To see if we're worth killing personally."

Fenrik lifted his axe, breathing hard. "Then let's give him an answer."

The second wave hit harder.

Void constructs slammed their weapons into the ground, sending gravity distortions rippling outward. Allies were thrown back as the land itself warped, bending like liquid. One construct raised its arm, forming a massive spear of compressed darkness and hurled it toward Koharu.

Kaizen appeared in front of her instantly.

The spear stopped inches from his chest.

He grasped it.

The void weapon shattered, space snapping back into place.

"This battlefield is unstable," Kaizen said. "If Malzareon interferes further, Earth will not withstand it."

Taro wiped blood from his lip. "Then we end this fast."

The allies regrouped.

Aoi took point, her aura flaring brighter than ever. Koharu began chanting, runes forming around her as she poured everything into amplification spells. Fenrik stepped forward beside Kaizen, their weapons humming in unison.

For a brief moment, they fought as one.

Aoi shattered defenses.

Taro reaped through the gaps.

Fenrik erased what could not die.

Koharu held the world together.

Kaizen bent reality itself to keep them alive.

The void soldiers began to fall faster than they could reform.

Then—

Everything stopped.

The battlefield went silent.

The sky twisted, folding inward like a closing eye.

A massive presence descended—not fully formed, but overwhelming. Two colossal violet eyes opened within the distortion.

"Enough."

Malzareon's voice pressed into their minds.

The remaining soldiers froze, dissolving into shadow and retreating into the earth. The land began to heal unnaturally, cracks sealing as if time itself were reversing.

Fenrik staggered, dropping to one knee. His axe dimmed.

Koharu collapsed, barely conscious.

Taro stood, shaking, forcing himself upright.

Kaizen alone remained steady—but even his expression had changed.

"This was never the real battle," Kaizen said softly. "Only a warning."

The void receded.

The sky cleared.

And just like that—it was over.

The allies gathered in the aftermath, battered but alive.

Aoi broke the silence. "He wanted us to see his army."

"And to understand something," Fenrik added. "That this is only the beginning."

Kaizen turned away, gazing toward the horizon where Forvogera's influence faded into nothingness.

"Malzareon does not rush," he said. "He coils. He waits. And when he strikes… entire worlds suffocate."

Fenrik tightened his grip on the Wolf Slayer Axe.

"Then we'll be ready."

The wind finally howled again.

But somewhere far beyond their reach, the Void Serpent smiled.
