Chapter 72: A Note from the Author (Worth a Minute of Your Time)
Hard to believe, but Rango and Ted have been part of my life — and hopefully yours — for over a month now.
When I first started writing this, pretty much everyone I talked to thought I was making a mistake. The note I kept getting was some version of: "If you're going to write supernatural fiction, just write a Supernatural fanfic. Or Marvel. Original horror-comedy crossover stuff has no audience."
And honestly, I thought about it. A straight Winchester-universe fanfic would've been easier. A procedural with a monster-of-the-week structure, paint by numbers. Safer.
But I kept coming back to the same thing: those shelves are already full. Prestige TV pastiche, gritty detective noir with a demon twist, the lone exorcist-priest archetype that's been running since The Exorcist — I've read those books. Some of them are great. But after a while they blur together.
What I actually wanted to write was something that loved horror and genre film the way Scream loved slasher movies — from the inside, with full awareness, finding the comedy and the genuine stakes in the same beat. The kind of story where a character can drop a line from Tombstone or Aliens and it lands because the moment actually earned it, not because the author needed a pop culture reference.
That's the book I'm writing. Parody and sincerity running side by side, not canceling each other out.

Before I found writing I had a string of jobs that paid fine and meant nothing. Writing this, even on the nights when the chapter isn't coming together, is the first thing I've done that felt like mine. Like I found my lane.
