Chapter 24 - (chapter - 21) - Run Through Hell

The engine roared like a dying beast as the college bus tore through the narrow rural road. Its heavy tires skidded violently over loose gravel and slick mud, kicking up debris while the sky above bled in unnatural, churning shades of crimson.

Inside the cabin, no one spoke. Fear had devoured everything.

Riya gripped the rusted edge of her seat so hard her knuckles turned stark white. Her eyes were fixed on the shattered window beside her, where jagged streaks of red lightning tore across the sky, casting brief, violent flashes over the carnage outside. Her breathing came shallow and uneven—as if even the air inside the vehicle had turned toxic.

"Drive faster!" a voice shrieked from the back.

"I am!" the driver yelled back, his voice cracking under the sheer terror as he slammed the accelerator flush against the floorboards.

Lakshman stood near the front aisle, bracing himself against the overhead handrail. His face was stained with sweat and dirt, his eyes frantically scanning the darkness beyond the glass. "They're still on us… they're not falling back!"

Behind the speeding bus, the horde pursued.

Pisachas. Dozens of them.

Their twisted, emaciated bodies moved with unnatural, predatory speed—crawling on all fours, leaping across broken asphalt, and slamming into the dirt like starving hounds. Their glowing, sunken eyes remained locked onto the vehicle, their jawlines distended in a permanent, hungry roar.

And above them, vast shadows cut through the blood-red clouds.

Vyomasuras. Wings like leather sails, circling the sky—watching, waiting for the bus to slow.

"WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS?!" Aljasheem screamed, ducking reflexively as one of the flying beasts swooped low, its massive shadow engulfing the roof for a terrifying second.

Franklin Iyer clamped his hands over his head, sweat streaming down his face. "Don't look at them! Just stay down!"

Rajasekaran shook his head violently, panic tearing through his usual composure. "We shouldn't have left… we should've waited for the others!"

Riya's eyes flickered at his words. *Shiva.* She clamped her teeth together, her chest aching with a cold, desperate certainty. *"…He's alive. He'll come."*

*THUD.*

The entire chassis buckled as something heavy slammed against the left side panel.

*SCREEEEEECH.*

A Pisacha hooked its elongated claws over the window frame. Its distorted face pressed flat against the glass, a black tongue dragging across the pane while its yellow eyes burned into the students inside.

Screams erupted through the aisle. "GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF!"

The driver reacted on pure instinct. He hauled the steering wheel hard to the right.

The bus swerved violently, its tires tearing through the dirt shoulder.

*CRASH.*

The Pisacha was pinned between the vehicle's body and a thick banyan tree along the road. Its spine snapped with a brutal crunch, spraying black bile across the bark as the bus tore past it.

"Hold on!" the driver roared.

More descended.

One launched itself from a roadside ditch, landing dead center on the front windshield.

*CRACK.*

The safety glass shattered into a web of white fractures. A long, bone-tipped claw punched through the glass, reaching wildly for the driver's throat.

"OUT OF THE WAY!" Lakshman yelled. He snatched a heavy iron pipe from the floorboards, lunged forward, and drove it with both hands directly into the creature's face.

*THUD.*

The beast screeched in agony as its grip slipped, falling beneath the spinning front wheels with a sickening thud.

But it was only the beginning. The metallic thrumming above grew deafening as multiple Pisachas landed heavily on the roof. Their claws scraped against the metal, their combined weight causing the bus to sway unnaturally.

"THEY'RE ON THE ROOF!" Benedict yelled, his voice barely carrying over the metallic screeching above.

*SHATTER.*

A side window exploded inward, showering the aisle with sharp glass fragments. A Pisacha forced its upper torso through the gap, its razor-sharp claws lunging straight for a panicked girl cowering in the row.

Before it could strike, Benedict stepped in. He swung a broken steel seat rod down with absolute fury, driving the jagged tip deep into the creature's neck.

The Pisacha thrashed violently, black blood spurting across the seats. Aljasheem, shaking violently, grabbed a fire extinguisher from the wall mount and smashed it onto the creature's skull over and over.

"DIE! DIE! DIE!" he screamed, his voice raw with hysteria.

The creature finally went limp, tumbling backward out of the moving bus.

For a single second, the students froze. They had killed one.

But there was no time to breathe. Another Pisacha forced its way through the rear window, quickly followed by another.

Absolute chaos tore through the bus. The students fought back with whatever they could scavenge—heavy backpacks, iron rods, jagged glass—striking out blindly as the creatures clawed at them. Lakshman grabbed one by its throat, slammed its skull against the metal frame, and kicked it out into the oncoming wind.

Riya, her hands trembling uncontrollably, picked up a sharp shard of broken metal. When a Pisacha lunged into her aisle, she drove the piece into its eye socket with a desperate cry, forcing it back.

"I don't want to die here!" someone sobbed from the back.

"Keep fighting!" Benedict roared, his face covered in blood and sweat. "DON'T LET THEM IN!"

The bus shuddered violently as a massive pressure settled from above.

Outside, two Vyomasuras descended from the red sky. They were colossal, horrifying, their muscular frames covered in thick, leathery hide. They slammed into the asphalt directly ahead of the vehicle, the sheer force of their landing cracking the road surface.

"BRAKE!" Rajasekaran screamed.

The driver yanked the wheel, but it was too late. The bus narrowly dodged the first beast, but the second leaped sideways, burying its massive talons into the side panel of the bus.

The heavy vehicle tilted onto two wheels, metal groaning under the force.

"NO… NO… NO!" Aljasheem gasped, tumbling across the aisle.

The second Vyomasura swooped in, grabbing the rear axle with its talons. Together, the two massive beasts flexed their wings and *lifted*.

The bus left the asphalt, its wheels spinning uselessly in mid-air.

Inside, gravity failed. Seats snapped, students slid toward the back wall, and shrieks of terror filled the enclosed space as they hung suspended over the road.

"We're dead…" someone whimpered, closing their eyes.

Riya clutched the steel frame beneath her, her eyes squeezed shut as she breathed out a final whisper. *"Shiva..."*

*WHOOOOOOSH—BOOOOOOOM!*

A blinding trail of fire cut through the dark sky. A high-explosive rocket struck the first Vyomasura dead in its chest.

The warhead detonated with a deafening blast, tearing the beast's torso apart in a cloud of fire and dark blood. It shrieked once before plummeting toward the earth.

Before the second beast could react, another streak of fire roared through the smoke.

*BOOOOOOOM!*

The second rocket caught the creature directly behind its neck, completely obliterating its head.

The bus plunged out of the air, crashing back onto the dirt road with a violent impact. The tires blew, the suspension snapped, and the vehicle skidded to a halt in a cloud of dust and burning rubber.

Silence fell over the wreckage, broken only by the crackle of fire and heavy, panicked breathing.

Then, crisp military shouts echoed from outside.

"MOVE! COVER THE FLANKS! GO GO GO!"

A squad of Indian Army soldiers armed with assault rifles and RPG launchers rushed past the smoking windows, their tactical boots crunching against the gravel. They took up defensive perimeters around the bus, weapons raised, scanning the treeline with razor-sharp focus.

An officer kicked open the jammed bus doors, gesturing frantically. "You're safe now! MOVE! GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE NOW!"

The doors hissed open. The students spilled out of the wreckage, crying, stumbling, and holding onto each other as their feet hit the solid ground.

Riya stepped down onto the dirt, her knees shaking so badly she could barely stand. Lakshman dropped his metal rod, staring around at the armed forces in absolute shock.

"…We made it," Lakshman breathed out, wiping the blood from his brow. "We actually survived…"

*THUD.*

The earth quivered beneath their feet. A heavy, rhythmic vibration shook the ground, sending loose pebbles dancing across the asphalt.

Everyone turned toward the horizon. The relief evaporated instantly.

In the distance, standing taller than the hills, was the Demon Titan.

It moved slowly through the burning ruins of the distant town, a colossal god of destruction wrapped in smoke and hellfire. High above it, an army helicopter circled, firing a barrage of heavy chain-gun rounds and air-to-surface missiles directly into its chest.

The explosives detonated harmlessly against its hide. The Titan didn't even slow down.

With a slow, effortless sweep of its massive arm, the Titan swatted the aircraft out of the sky.

*CRUSH.*

The helicopter crumpled like paper, exploding into a massive fireball that lit up the blood-red clouds. Burning metal rained down over the distant forest.

"TO THE BUNKER!" the army commander screamed, pointing toward a reinforced concrete structure built into the hillside behind the station. "RUN! NOW!"

No one hesitated. The students ran together—through the suffocating smoke, through the paralyzing terror, through the living nightmare that had swallowed their world.

And somewhere out in the dark, equipped with a power that could shatter hell itself, Shiva was coming.
