Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: Breaking the R&D Deadlock, Driver Selection

After returning from the restaurant, Alex Sun took the elevator straight up to his room. Once inside, he quickly tidied up his belongings and sat down on the sofa, quietly waiting for Rebecca Lin to arrive.

He already knew the situation. Rebecca Lin had mentioned earlier through chat that the team had made major progress and would come report in person. Several key decisions still required his approval, and these matters would determine the team's future direction. There was no room for carelessness.

A few minutes later, a soft knock sounded at the door.

Alex Sun got up and opened it. The moment he saw the person outside, he paused slightly, a clear flash of surprise crossing his eyes.

Rebecca Lin stood there wearing traditional Azerbaijani clothing.

She wore a silk dress embroidered with delicate, colorful patterns. The long skirt flowed smoothly, and a wide belt decorated with small silver ornaments wrapped around her waist. The silver pieces jingled softly as she moved, accentuating her slender figure.

A matching veil wrapped around her head, revealing only her smooth forehead and refined features. The sharp professionalism she usually carried at work had softened into a graceful, exotic charm, yet her professional presence remained unmistakable.

She stepped lightly into the room. Noticing Alex Sun's gaze, she smiled faintly.

"This is traditional Azerbaijani clothing. I bought it specially to celebrate your first Baku win today."

Alex Sun snapped out of his brief daze. The surprise in his eyes deepened, and he praised her without hesitation.

"This is an incredible surprise. It looks amazing on you. The outfit suits you perfectly—it blends that exotic style with your professional aura just right."

He couldn't help thinking to himself that Rebecca Lin wasn't just beautiful; she was also someone who could pull off any outfit effortlessly. Wearing this traditional Azerbaijani dress, her features carried an unmistakable exotic charm. She truly looked like someone who could transform into any style.

Rebecca Lin's cheeks flushed slightly at the compliment, a hint of shyness flickering in her eyes. After hesitating for a moment, she gathered her courage and spoke.

"Boss… since you think it looks nice, could we take a photo together? Just as a keepsake to celebrate your win."

Alex Sun immediately agreed. His voice remained gentle, with a faint teasing tone hidden within it, while a trace of excitement showed in his eyes.

"Of course. A request from a fairy can't be refused."

He walked over to stand beside her, slightly stiff and unsure of where to place his hands. Despite being happy about it, he still tried to maintain the composure expected of a boss.

Seeing this unusually shy side of him—so different from his usual calm demeanor—Rebecca Lin smiled quietly. She reached out, gently taking his hand and guiding his arm around her slender waist. The movement was natural and soft.

Then she took out her phone and placed it in Alex Sun's free hand.

"Here, you hold the phone. Just stretch your arm out and take the selfie. The angle will be better."

Alex Sun steadied himself, raised the phone, and pressed the shutter, capturing the warm and striking moment.

After the photo, the two instinctively stepped apart. Rebecca Lin quickly regained her professional composure, and Alex Sun returned to his usual calm demeanor.

"Alright, boss. Back to work," Rebecca Lin said with a smile as she turned and walked deeper into the suite.

Near the floor-to-ceiling windows was a simple yet elegant study. The large windows framed the city lights and night view outside. A desk stood beside the window with a tablet and several folders neatly arranged on top. A comfortable lounge chair nearby made it an ideal place for a quiet work discussion.

Alex Sun nodded and followed her in.

Rebecca Lin sat down by the desk first, placing the documents she carried onto the table.

Alex Sun settled into the lounge chair beside her. His eyes briefly drifted toward the night view outside the window before returning to Rebecca Lin. His expression had already returned to his composed, professional demeanor.

"Boss, let's get straight to the point," Rebecca Lin began. "First, the Ferrari engine partnership is progressing smoothly. The basic terms have already been agreed upon. We'll report the remaining details later, but the main focus today is the team situation."

Her tone was crisp as she tapped the tablet on the desk and opened the team's presentation.

"Team principal Rossi did an excellent job this time. He pushed forward and secured the engine cooperation nearly half a month ahead of schedule."

She tapped the screen again, switching to the chassis development section. Her eyes brightened slightly.

"Even more impressive is Matteo's progress on chassis development. It's moving forward extremely smoothly."

"The chassis optimization concept you previously gave him—he's fully understood it. He's been leading the team through repeated simulations and verification, leaving nothing to chance."

Rebecca Lin's admiration became more obvious.

"Actually, there's something interesting. Matteo specifically told me that ever since he joined our team, he feels like his thinking has suddenly become much clearer."

"Problems that used to stall development for days can now be sorted out almost instantly, and the entire team's development efficiency has skyrocketed. In his words, it feels like 'suddenly unlocking something or getting a buff—things that used to make no sense are now obvious at a glance.'"

Hearing this, Alex Sun sat calmly in the lounge chair. His expression remained steady, though he already understood the reason. A faint smile appeared at the corner of his lips.

He thought to himself: this wasn't strange at all.

After all, the team attribute panel in the F1 Legend System he had activated wasn't just decoration. Those 35 chassis optimization points were real. The 35% boost in R&D efficiency came directly from them.

And the chassis optimization concept he gave Matteo had been unlocked after his Monaco victory. It was an advanced concept with tremendous value.

The combination of these two factors was what allowed Matteo and the entire R&D team to progress as if they had switched on some kind of cheat code. Without both working together, they would never have achieved this level of efficiency.

Before Alex Sun could think further, Rebecca Lin continued.

"Matteo told me this concept is extremely forward-looking. He believes it likely aligns with the direction of next year's new regulations."

"If the FIA's new regulations next year really match the predictions in this concept, we could reduce our chassis development time by at least one-third and avoid many common development pitfalls. For a new team like ours, that's a massive advantage."

She paused before adding,

"The core architecture of the new chassis has already been largely finalized using this concept, and we're currently coordinating the next round of testing. Once the new season starts, we'll officially enter the wind tunnel testing phase."

"Since we're a brand-new team, every step has to be solid. This concept basically gives us enough time to refine everything properly."

Alex Sun nodded slightly and asked casually,

"Why can't we start wind tunnel research early using the 2022 car?"

Rebecca Lin immediately switched to the FIA regulations page. Pointing to the key clause on the screen, she explained firmly,

"There's one core rule. The FIA strictly prohibits starting development on the 2022 car ahead of time. That's a red line we absolutely cannot cross."

She tapped the screen again.

"Besides, we're not competing in the 2021 season anyway. Spending resources developing a car for the current aerodynamic era would just be a waste. It's better to save the budget and focus entirely on the compliant development of the 2022 car."

After finishing that explanation, she switched to the team registration preparation page.

"Boss, regarding team registration and the competition application, we must follow FIA regulations. It's not time to submit yet."

She pointed to the application window displayed on the screen.

"The FIA clearly states that the official application window for the 2022 season runs from October 21 to November 1, 2021. It's only June right now, so we can't submit anything yet."

"However, Rossi is already pushing forward with all the preparatory work before the application. Every document is being organized and completed according to FIA requirements so that the moment the window opens in October, we can submit immediately."

After explaining the preparations, she switched to a list of the team's key objectives.

Her finger paused on the screen, and her tone became more serious.

"Considering both the registration process and the team's development, our current priorities are very clear."

"Our focus is preparing for the new regulations and finalizing the driver lineup."

She looked directly at Alex Sun.

"But boss… regarding the selection of the number two driver, there's something I need to discuss with you in person."
