Chapter 8 - Whispers from the World

Footsteps echoed softly- Yukie's sandals brushing against silence.

She walked alone along a long red carpet, its color deep and ceremonial, stretching endlessly beneath the dim lights of the grand opera house. No voices followed her. No applause. Only the measured rhythm of her steps.

She reached the glass doors and pushed them open. Cold night air greeted her as she stepped outside. She took a few slow steps forward, then stopped.

Her gaze lifted.

The moon hung low and immense, pale and watchful, so close it felt as though it were staring back at her. She remained still beneath it, wrapped in quiet.

A breeze passed through, teasing the hem of her long skirt, pulling it gently to the side like a whisper urging movement.

Then- Her eyes widened, just slightly.

Yukie turned her head, then her body, attention snapping away from the moon and toward the distant horizon. Her expression sharpened, cautious and alert.

"This pressure… It is heavy."

"If I failed to be on alert,"

she thought

"it could have hauled me to the ground. Or worse, crush me."

The sensation wasn't violent. It didn't force itself upon her. Yet it lingered- dense, oppressive, as though gravity itself had thickened.

Her brows knit.

"This presence… it feels familiar.

A name surfaced in her mind.

"Shirogane."

Her eyes narrowed slightly as she measured the distance.

"He is located at a significant distance, well outside the outskirts of the city, outside Osaka itself."

"And yet… I can still feel it."

She exhaled slowly.

"Quite impressive… for a divine spell."

The night remained quiet, unaware of the unseen weight pressing upon it. Yukie turned to the side and began walking, her steps deliberate now, directed toward a small forest visible in the distance. Her expression had lost all softness, eyes half-lidded with focus, lips set in a firm line.

Whatever had awakened inside her mind...

…it was not something she intended to ignore.

Chapter 8: A Deal's a Deal!

Act 2 - Orchestral Loom

As she moved through the forest, slipping past towering trunks and shadowed undergrowth, moonlight filtered down from above, silver beams threading between the leaves. Deeper she went, until the trees subtly and gradually spaced themselves apart, forming a wide, open clearing.

The moon shone upon it perfectly.

Yukie stepped forward and came to a slow halt at the center. Her eyes closed.

Darkness took hold.

"I have ruled the aspect of cold," her voice echoed quietly,

"the ice ages of this world… for thousands of years."

She stood unmoving, breath steady.

"Shirogane is not an ordinary human. Not even by the standards of hunters. His spiritual essence can be felt from miles away."

A pause.

"However--"

Her eyes snapped open, fierce and unwavering.

"It is still not close… to what I truly am."

She raised her right arm upward, slightly tilted, palm open toward the sky.

Her hand remained there, suspended, waiting, as though calling something unseen. The air grew still. Even the forest seemed to hold its breath.

Her gaze sharpened further.

"…Hm. Come forth, Natural Energy," she murmured.

The wind answered.

A gentle but deliberate breeze swept through the clearing, rustling leaves and softly shaking the surrounding trees- as if the forest itself had begun to respond.

Then, deliberately, a faint of a combined white and light blue hue began to emerge- like a quiet wind made visible. It circled her figure slowly, gently, before narrowing its path and gathering at her raised hand. The energy converged at her open palm, taking shape as a soft, spiraling vortex, no larger than a small typhoon held in miniature.

It did not violently disturb the forest.

There was no roar, no rupture.

It was gentle, and unmistakably cold.

Cold in a way that spoke of depth rather than force, of age rather than aggression.

As the white-blue Natural Energy grew denser, the vortex became clearer, beautiful in its restraint, elegant in its rotation.

Moonlight poured down upon her still form, illuminating eyes pale as untouched snow. A faint smile curved her pink lips, one born not of confidence, but of intrigue.

"It seems I am not entirely severed from Natural Energy," she reflected softly, watching the slow turn of the spiral.

"Though its manifestation is confined to an external form."

Her eyes narrowed in quiet consideration.

"If that is the case, then the Natural Energy within me must still remain."

A subtle, composed smile followed.

"Fascinating."

—

The scene cut.

White sandals echoed softly as they stepped along familiar marble floors, their rhythm calm and unhurried.

At the same time, another set of footsteps rang out- measured, deliberate- the sound of black shoes against the tiles floor.

Both paths led inward, deeper into the Grand Opera House.

Their steps aligned upon the red carpet, advancing in silence from opposite ends of the hall. The echoes overlapped once, twice -until-

They stopped. The camera pulled back.

Yukie stood beneath a dimly lit chandelier, her white sandals resting upon the crimson carpet. Across from her stood Makoto, black shoes planted firmly, posture composed.

Between them lay the vast center stage of the opera house, grand and quiet, its towering space framing the distance they now shared. They faced one another once more.

Silence stood between them- heavy, deliberate, shared not only by the two figures but by the grand stage itself, looming quietly behind them.

Then--

"How were you-" Makoto began.

"You've returned-" Yukie spoke at the same time.

They stopped simultaneously, each yielding without a word.

Makoto let out a faint breath of amusement and tilted his cane slightly with his right hand, a subtle gesture inviting her to speak first. Yukie responded with a soft, restrained smile. Their gazes met- calm, measured.

"You've returned," Yukie said. "How did you deal with that woman?"

She paused, eyes steady.

"The clash between you was unmistakable. The display of spiritual essence alone made that evident."

A trace of intrigue surfaced in her tone.

"Quite commendable. And rather… exciting to perceive, even from afar."

Makoto rested the tip of his cane against the floor, his hand still upon it.

"She withdrew on her own,"

he replied evenly.

"Mentioned something about running out of time. And, something about two months from now."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"Which coincides precisely with the Theatre's Encore."

"I see," Yukie murmured.

Her voice lowered, more deliberate.

"That explains why I wished to speak with you. I encountered something… noteworthy during your absence."

"Oh?" Makoto replied, then paused mid-thought.

"…Actually," he added, exhaling softly,

"There is something I should propose before we proceed."

He lifted his gaze to her.

"Regarding what you shared earlier- how would you feel about forming a Lotus Contract?"

Yukie regarded him in silence.

"I see," she said calmly.

"And what, precisely, would your terms be?"

"You're quite demanding..." he remarked lightly, before continuing.

"For the next two months, I would request your assistance, specifically in investigating this threat that seems to be looming."

His tone sharpened, formal once more.

"In return, I will aid you in removing your seal and confronting whatever future you have foreseen."

A brief pause.

"Until both conditions are fulfilled, we will be bound by the Lotus Contract. As such agreements are meant to function."

Yukie lifted her right hand, resting it briefly behind her neck as her fingers slipped beneath her long black hair. Her gaze lowered, angled to the side, contemplative.

Then she looked back at him.

Her eyes narrowed just slightly, not with suspicion, but with intent. Mesmerizing in their stillness. She extended her hand.

A gentle smile followed.

"Very well, Shirogane Makoto," she said.

"Let us exchange our insights."

Makoto nodded once.

"Well,"

He accepted her hand.

The moment their palms met, light surged forth. Soft pink enveloped Makoto.

Blue-white surrounded Yukie.

Their auras expanded, overlapping, flowing across their joined arms. Gradually, the colors intermingled- pink threading through white, white seeping into pink, until each bore a trace of the other. They held each other's gaze, faint smiles unbroken.

Then they released their grip.

"Well then,"

Yukie said, her expression settling into something far more serious,

"Let us return to the matter I mentioned earlier..."
