Chapter 6 - Birthday Celebrations and Stolen Truths

The days following Arya and Ethan's moonlit exchange blurred into a whirlwind of preparation, and now, Breloff Palace hummed with festive electricity. Today was Princess Arya's 20th birthday—a milestone her parents, King Duke and Queen Charlotte Breloff, celebrated with unparalleled grandeur.

King Duke, with his distinguished tanned skin and silver-white hair, stood tall, his emerald eyes reflecting a father's pride. Beside him, Queen Charlotte was the picture of elegance; her raven-dark hair cascaded down her back like liquid night, contrasting beautifully with her glowing olive skin.

The grand hall swelled with noble guests:

Prince Liam of Eldrida arrived with a charming flourish, bearing a gift of exquisite craft.

Prince Cable followed, with Sofia walking just a step behind him. She looked breathtaking in a silk blue gown that moved like water.

Lady Emily was radiant, her golden gown shimmering under the chandeliers like a sunbeam.

Arya, resplendent in a emerald gown, navigated the crowd with grace. Queen Charlotte took the floor, her voice melodic as she toasted: "Tonight, we honor our beloved Arya... May this year be the dawn of her brightest adventures!"

As the applause echoed, Sofia watched Arya from the sidelines. Finding a moment of stillness near the marble fountain, Sofia approached her. "Arya, may I have a word with you?"

Arya smiled warmly and drew Sofia away from the prying eyes of the courtiers. "I am so glad you are here to celebrate with me, Sofia."

Sofia leaned in, her voice barely a whisper. "Arya, I have observed the way Royal Guard Ethan Slade watches you... Do you love him?"

A flicker of surprise crossed Arya's face, followed by a wave of tender vulnerability. "Yes, Sofia... I do love him," she confessed softly.

Encouraged by Sofia's kind expression, Arya let the words flow. "Ethan and I... it began three years ago. We bonded over whispered conversations in the abandoned wing during his night shifts. What started as friendship grew into stolen glances and hidden touches. One moonlit night, he finally confessed his heart to me, and I found I belonged to him just as much. We have been each other's secret ever since."

Arya's voice trembled slightly as she scanned the area to ensure they were alone. She took Sofia's hand, her emerald eyes searching Sofia's ruby ones. "You are the very first person outside of us to know this, Sofia. There is a weight to this secret, yet when I look at you, I feel a strange sense of safety. Why do I feel I can confide in you so deeply? Perhaps it is because I sense that you, too, carry a world of unspoken stories behind those striking eyes."

Upon the King's return from the forest, a heavy shroud of melancholy seemed to follow him. King Julian became withdrawn and reserved, his regal stature replaced by a haunting silence. When Crown Prince Liam approached him, seeking answers about the expedition, the King offered nothing but a hollow gaze. It was as if he were guarding a secret too dark to be shared, one that weighed heavily upon his soul.

A few days had passed since the enchanting dance, and Sofia found her thoughts drifting toward Prince Cable. Driven by a desire to see him, she spent her morning in the kitchens, meticulously crafting chocolates and pastries.

She entered Cable's private study and curtsied softly. "Your Highness, I brought some sweets—a humble gesture for you."

Cable looked up, his face lighting up with genuine delight. "Sofia! These don't look like standard kitchen fare... did you make these yourself?"

Sofia smiled nervously. "I remembered you mentioned your love for sweets, so I took the liberty. I hope they are to your liking."

Cable was visibly moved. "I thought that conversation had slipped your mind... but you remembered. It's intriguing how much you truly listen to me, Sofia."

"Perhaps because our conversations have been the highlight of my days lately, Cable," Sofia replied, her cheeks flushing.

Cable chuckled warmly, inviting her to sit. "Please, just 'Cable'—especially when you bring such wonderful surprises."

In the City of Calorina...

Deep within the Breloff Palace, under the veil of night, Princess Arya slipped through the silent corridors. She made her way to the abandoned east wing, where the moonlight cast kaleidoscopic shadows on the floor. From the darkness emerged Ethan Slade, her trusted guard and secret love.

After a tender embrace, Arya whispered, "I was thinking of my cousin Cable and his new butler, Sofia... Do you think he realizes how beautiful she is, Ethan?"

Ethan smiled, his gaze lingering on Arya. "I believe Cable notices everything about her, Princess. Just as I notice every detail about you."

Arya's emerald eyes sparkled. "Do you really think they could fall for each other? They connect so effortlessly."

Ethan pulled her closer, his voice a low vibration against her ear. "It's already more than friendship, Arya. Price Cable's guard drops completely when she is near Sofia—just as mine does when I am with you."
