I should've been angrier than I was.
That was the strange part.
By the time Caroline admitted she'd been helping Brielle, something inside me had already moved past shock and into something colder. Anger usually came fast for me. Immediate. Sharp. But this felt heavier than that because the deeper the conversation went, the more obvious it became that this wasn't one mistake or one emotional decision gone too far.
This had been building quietly for months.
Maybe longer.
Caroline stayed seated while I stood across from her, the tablet still sitting between us on the table like neither of us wanted to touch it anymore.
"You really thought I wouldn't notice eventually?" I asked.
"You didn't," she replied calmly.
That answer irritated me immediately.
I looked at her properly then.
"You sound proud of that."
"Maybe I am."
I let out a short laugh without humor.
"You helped somebody move against my company from inside the system."
